I love these poppy-shaped flowers found in the Southern California chaparral regions. This photo was taken as a heat wave steeled in over the region. It was about 70 degrees at 8am, but the sun's reflection off off rock and exposed mountain surfaces made it feel 5-10 degrees warmer.
