Today I will bring my friends to know another important temple of Luang Prabang.
Wat Mahathat or "Wat Chedi Yai" is one of the beautiful temples of Luang Prabang. Wat Phra Mahathat or Wat That is located near the Mekong River southwest of Mount Phu Si. This temple was built in 1548 during the Setthathirat era. King of the Lan Xang Kingdom. During 1900, a storm damaged the temple's sim and other structures. The temple was restored in the first decade of the 20th century.
This temple is an important temple from the past to the present because during the Lao New Year celebration Monks from many temples come to Wat Mahathat to water the Buddha image and there is ( Hae wo ) or Nang Sangkhan parade dancing to worship Grandfather Ye and Ya Ye. It is a spirit guardian of the city.
The stairs on both sides of this temple consist of a seven-headed serpent leading to the temple area. Behind the temple is a large black pagoda. located on a square base In the south of the temple and around there is also a small stupa.

วัดมหาธาตุหรือ "วัดเจดีย์ใหญ่" เป็นหนึ่งในวัดที่สวยงามของหลวงพระบาง. วัดพระมหาธาตุหรือวัดธาตุตั้งอยู่ใกล้แม่น้ำโขงทางตะวันตกเฉียงใต้ของภูเขาภูสี. วัดนี้สร้างขึ้นเมื่อปี 1548 ในสมัยเศรษฐาธิราช กษัตริย์แห่งอาณาจักรล้านช้าง. ในระหว่างปี 1900 เกีดพายุพัดทำให้ซิมของวัดและโครงสร้างอื่นๆ เสียหาย. วัดได้รับการบูรณะในทศวรรษแรกของศตวรรษที่ 20.

บันไดทางขื้นวัดแห่งนี้ทังสองข้างปะกอบด้วยพญานาค 7 เศียรนำไปสู่บริเวณวัด. ด้านหลังวัดเป็นเจดีย์สีดำขนาดใหญ่ ตั้งอยู่บนฐานสี่เหลี่ยม ทางทิดใต้ของวัด และ รอบๆยังมีเจดีย์กะจักกะจายอยู่รอบๆไปอีกด้วย.
หากใครมีโอกาสมาที่หลวงพระบางก็อย่าลืมแวะมาเที่ยวชมวัดแห่งนี้ด้วยน่ะค่ะ. การเดินทางมาวัดมหาธาตุ นี้ง่ายนิดเดี๋ยว ตามด้านล่างนี่เลยค่ะ.

Even though this temple isn't as decorated as others, or as ornamented with gold, I think it has a bit more character, more true to it's original purpose.
