Last Wednesday we hiked one of the scenic trails at Crater of Diamonds State Park in Arkansas. This was in the afternoon before we headed back to town for a late lunch/early dinner.

Why were we at Crater of Diamonds State Park? To look for diamonds, of course!

While we did find a whole lot of beautiful and colorful rocks. None of them were diamonds. However, the adventure with my mom and sister made the whole experience a gem of a time. Plus a bonus I hadn't considered when planning this trip, was all of the genuinely kind and interesting people we encountered. Folks from all over the country. Of all ages. Some folks were like us, first-timers. Others were seasoned diamond hunters who were generous with their knowledge and had so many stories to tell.

We consider ourselves blessed to have spent a few days with folks sharing stories and having a good time. This trip was a good reminder that the world is filled with kind, warm, and funny people.

Looks like a nice spot even if you didn't strike carbon. I wasn't aware that the US had sources of diamonds.

I was reading about it in their museum. They explored whether there was potential for commercially mining for diamonds in the area. Turns out the money, work, and time a commercial venture would have to put into a mining operation is not fiscally feasible.

That picture is great, it made me want to go back to my traveling and adventure days hehe

I didn't know there are diamonds in Arkansas, what happens if you find some, do they belong to the National park or to you?

Anything you find is yours to keep. They will register the diamond. You even get to name it!

That is great, definitely more fair than some "whatever you find you have to report and yield to an organization" lol

Those stories would have been fascinating and lovely to hear. I wish I could go diamond hunting with loved ones. I imagine how heartwarming the experience would have beee.
