El trabajo es una de las actividades fundamentales del ser humano, proyectado sobre sí mismo y sobre las cosas que crea. Este texto, el teléfono o computadora que usas, la silla sobre la cual te sientas para leerlo, todo tiene una huella de esfuerzo humano, que tiene también la herencia de tanto trabajo acumulado anteriormente para desarrollar creaciones cada vez más perfectas y cercanas a nuestras necesidades o caprichos. De igual forma, semejante esfuerzo implica una carga, un agotamiento, y también penas y tristezas que se arrastran. Sobre estas cuestiones puede reflexionarse a partir de las instantáneas que atrapé de esta obra de arte que cuelga en la sala de una casa.
Points of view: From wood to work
Work is one of the fundamental activities of the human being, projected on himself and on the things he creates. This text, the phone or computer you use, the chair on which you sit to read it, everything has a trace of human effort, which also has the legacy of so much work accumulated previously to develop increasingly perfect creations and close to our needs or whims. In the same way, such an effort implies a burden, an exhaustion, and also sorrows and sorrows that drag on. These questions can be reflected on from the snapshots that I caught of this work of art that hangs in the living room of a house.
Sin que los propietarios supieran mencionarme más detalles de la autoría y origen de la obra, tal vez solo una diestra reproducción artesanal, me impresionó el cuidadoso trabajo del escultor con la madera, el manejo de la profundidad y las expresiones de los personajes. Vemos el recorrido de dos campesinos y sus respectivos animales cargando madera. Vemos el agobio de las bestias tan cercano al de los humanos. Vemos, en contraste, la vida abundante de la naturaleza y el asomo del sol, la pesada certeza de que aún sucederá el día a la noche, ininterrumpidamente, aunque las fuerzas le falten al campesino y sus animales para seguir constatando esa costumbre. El conjunto repasa el tortuoso trabajo del campo a simple vista, pero se atreve todavía a hablarnos del esfuerzo propio, del tiempo y el progreso humano.
Without the owners knowing how to mention to me more details of the authorship and origin of the work, perhaps just a dexterous handmade reproduction, I was impressed by the careful work of the sculptor with wood, the handling of depth and the expressions of the characters. We see the route of two peasants and their respective animals carrying wood. We see the burden of beasts so close to that of humans. We see, in contrast, the abundant life of nature and the appearance of the sun, the heavy certainty that it will still happen from day to night, uninterruptedly, although the peasant and his animals lack the strength to continue observing this custom. The set reviews the tortuous work of the field with the naked eye, but still dares to tell us about one's own effort, time and human progress.
Desde mi cámara intenté ser justo con la intención del artista. Una Canon como la mía aún es un aparato de aficionados, pero no quise despreciar la oportunidad de apropiarme estas impresiones. El juego de luces y sombras supongo logró rescatar la profundidad y las severas expresiones. Quise atrapar cada gesto, hecho y movimiento, y volverlo un discurso gráfico del trabajo o de ciertos trabajos. La meditación del mismo corre por su cuenta, y espero que les haya sido tan satisfactoria como la presentación de estas fotos.
From my camera I tried to be fair with the artist's intention. A Canon like mine is still an amateur device, but I did not want to despise the opportunity to appropriate these prints. The play of light and shadow did not manage to rescue the depth and the severe expressions. I wanted to capture every gesture, deed and movement, and turn it into a graphic discourse of work or certain jobs. The meditation of the same is on your own, and I hope it was as satisfactory as the presentation of these photos.
