My family and I at the money notes wall!

We finally visited our National Bank Museum and Art Gallery after we have seen many people bragged about this place.

Best of all, it was free entrance!!!

Check out Bank Negara Museum and Gallery at:
Location: Sasana Kijang, 2, Jalan Dato Onn, Kuala Lumpur, 50480 Kuala Lumpur, Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur
Opening Hours: Tuesdays to Sundays 10am to 1pm, 2pm to 5pm (Closed on Mondays)

Our local National Bank has established a museum that has become quite a talk of the town. It has an interactive children area and even the other floors of its exhibition have many interactive features to help us study the information given in interesting ways.

Basically this museum and art gallery consists of 3 floor: Children Interative area at the ground floor, Numismatic Gallery and some awareness teachings at the 1st floor as well as History of various money or currency used in Malaysia and the 3rd floor was an art gallery.

First things first, some rules!

We are not allowed to bring in any bag, food or bottles except for our phone cameras and wallets only. Anything extra had to be left in our car in the car parks. They do provide lockers but they limit the usage for public commuters who travelled here via public transport. So my passengers ended up keeping our things in the car.

After being checked of what we are bringing in, we needed to scan the QR code to register on how many adults and children going in.

We must leave the vicinity sharp at the hour they are closing of each session. In our cade, we went for the 10am and we were ushered out of the building before 1pm. They will keep reminding us that even the elevator will be locked.

Children Interactive Area

When we arrived, we were welcome by a digital vault which was an automatic door, leading us to the Million Ringgit Tunnel. This was the tunnel where most visitors would be taking their photos. It consists of many different notes that we used to have and currently have too such as our RM2, RM500 and RM1000 which no longer exist in our currency system now.

After that, there were varieties of interactive games to remind children to manage their finance wisely. There was a mock ATM machine and a balls-rolling station too. My children's favorite has got to be the interactive touch-and-light wall. When we touched the items, the price tag of the items will appear. I remember my youngest loving the rainbow so much thst the price tag was actually written there priceless.

There were also stamping Station and coin tracing Station for us to try how money is made. There were also walls of different notes at the exit again for us to take more photos.

Numismatic Gallery and Money History Museum

Here, we see them educating us how money has inflated and prices of necessities were so affordable back in the past. They also educated us on bewaring of Internet scams and how to handle online banking.

Later we went to the part of how money has developed over history. I did not expect this part to be one of my favourites actually. Looking at the notes and coins used during the Japanese and British colonisation era of our country, I was intrigued by them. Here we also see examples of how coin was minted in the olden days, how items were bartered too and many different types of coins brought by various colonel countries who used to be the government here. It really made me wonder how life was in those days.

Art Gallery

This was at the top floor with some natural light. Hence many of these art pieces looked really good. I tried to read and decipher them but hahaha I guess some are just very abstract. My sons enjoyed running here because it is spacious instead of admiring the art pieces.

We were done by 1130am though we arrived slightly past 10am. We learnt that another friend was coming with her son and mum-in-law so we met them up and went to the Children's interactive area for the second time. We then had our quick and rushed lunch at the Museum cafe which kept rushing us to finish our food and to be out of the vicinity by 1pm. .... and we did it!

After thoughts

I think this is one of the best governmental institute or museums. It is also the latest and newest hence it is really like one of the #gems. I think it definitely deserves a visit. My son told me he loved the Touch-and- light wall the most.
