It was the first day of New Year last Sunday and I was invited by a friend to her house for a dinner together with some others!
The dinner was actually a potluck where we cook some dishes from each family. She said her spaces was really small and limited so she only had us and another family over. With that, we already had 8 adults and 4 children.
The food we had was quite a spread though! My friend who was the host made her chicken stew and prepared some bread with olive oil on them. My another friend made mushroom soup from scratch with brown and white Tuscan button mushrooms and her famous delicious self made meatballs with her own tomato puree and cheese sprinkled on top to be baked! That was so good that I had a few servings.
So what my husband and I made?
Because of Christmas and New Year being so near, I haven't been cooking much. But that day I decided to do my steamed cabbage rolls stuffed with minced pork and mushrooms and carrots too. My husband made his famous "satay" which is food om skewers to be barbecued. Instead of barbecuing over fire, he grilled them in the pan. He did his bo la lot which is apparently a Vietnamese street food I think if I am not mistaken. He wrapped them in betel leaves and then grilled them. The fish sauce flavour really enhanced the whole dish. Always yummy when he made this. Our friends also got to try it for the first time.
We were actually rushing our cooking because on Sundays, we usually reach home late after church and we were really exhausted. After a really short nap, we quickly sprung to action.
The children also had a blast running around either my another friend's daughters. They played catch and drew together. We watched many Chinese New Year music videos on their smart TV and laughters were non stop that night. It was such a relaxing night and we left home at about 10pm. The CNY songs craze went on till many days after that and we are now anticipating the Lunar New Year in 2 weeks time! I have been playing CNY songs in the car and at home to experience the festive mood.
I actually had a hectic end to my 2022 and 2023 started with a hectic schedule too. Usually I have tuitions on Saturday and Sunday nights too but when I can break on a rare occasion, I really treasure it. Need to thank my friend for hosting us for a great get together that night!

Happy New Year and the food looks good and delicious. 🤗
All those different foods sound delicious! Your foods are so different from what I am used to eating. I'd like to try some of it some day.
Eh, is that enough food for everyone? heheh.
Happy New Year.
Hahah definitely enough. We even managed to pack home some chicken stew.
Goot that nothing is wasted
