Una melé de acero en un extremo del palenque y, en el otro, un duelo singular. El sonido estridente del metal contra el metal. Polvo y sudor; forcejeos, gruñidos y empujones; jadeos que se escapan del interior de los yelmos. Mazas y gujas abollan las relucientes armaduras bajo el sol implacable del medio día. Hachas y espadones hienden los escudos y los hacen trizas. En la arena, cada vez más combatientes por los suelos, derribados y rendidos. En las gradas, griterío y emociones a flor de piel: ovaciones si ha sido una buena contienda; vituperios cuando se usan artimañas o el combate se siente desigual. No son gladiadores, ni se trata de un torneo; es un deporte: combate histórico medieval.

Dust and sweat; scuffing, grunting and shoving; gasps escaping from inside the helmets. Maces and glaives dent gleaming armor in the relentless midday sun. Axes and swords cleave shields and shatter them to pieces. In the arena, more and more fighter lying on the ground, knocked down and surrendered. In the stands, shouting and emotions running high: ovations if it has been a good fight; vituperations when trickery is used or the combat feels unequal. They are not gladiators, nor is it a tournament; it is a sport: medieval historical battle.
