Hello, dear Hivers!
Have you read my latest article about THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BEACHES IN THE NORTH OF TENERIFE?

If you have, you probably remember Benijo beach that I mention there. Let me introduce that beautiful place a little more today.

Benijo beach is located in the Northeast of the island of Tenerife (in the Canary Islands). The access is quite complicated: you can either take the bus from Santa Cruz de Tenerife and then walk for a few kilometers, or drive a car. But whatever you choose, you always have to cross the beautiful but wild mountains of Anaga. Either you drive on the top of the range and then take the tunnel through the mountains towards Taganana, or you drive from Santa Cruz on the east coast, then drive almost to the top and take the same tunnel. Then, you obviously have to do more driving to descend back to sea level.

Access to the beach itself is also not easy: you can either walk by the ocean from Playa Almáciga or drive to a settlement called Benijo, from which you'll take many stairs down to the beach (see the last two photos).

Then there is also the factor of the weather: Benijo beach is located in a place that is mostly cloudy, windy, and sometimes rainy (I visited three times and two of those times the weather was just awful).

But if you come and the weather is nice, you will be rewarded with the most beautiful views of the ocean & the wild mountains, and a very refreshing (although quite dangerous) ocean water.

This day, I was visiting Benijo with my sister and her friends that came to visit me in Tenerife and the weather was just amazing. The beach was very wild though and the lifeguards were making sure nobody goes too far into the water. The waves were crazy that day and the currents on this beach are the strongest I experienced in Tenerife. But we had a lot of fun anyway! Found out we could jump into the remains of waves and let the water "ride" us (since the currents were so strong!). Don't worry, we did it in a place with just a little water so it was quite safe :)

Overall, I'm convinced there are better and safer beaches in Tenerife to visit if you're there just for a little while. But if you're staying for longer, you definitely shouldn't miss this beautiful, wild beach.
