There was heavy rain in my hometown today. At the end of March, around 3 – 4 pm, it was windy, cloudy, and gray. Especially in the countryside near the sea like in my hometown, the afternoon is the time when people go fishing, so the rain on the sea is more clear.
In my hometown in central Vietnam, people roam the sea all year round for their livelihood.
Some people see it as a job, others see it as their life. Because from a young age, they have been inspired by their fathers, they have been attached to the sea almost all their lives, so even though they are sometimes hard, difficult due to the weather, they are happy to welcome them.
Even when they don't harvest much, for them to be attached to the sea, freedom along the middle of the great sea is life. Boats like this will normally have two people with them, only when the season is right will they each take their own boat.
People can support each other, help each other at sea. Since I was a kid, I admired my dad and the doctors, they could sail a boat many times bigger than them, in the middle of the vast ocean, still find their way home, and no matter how long and how far, they knew that someone was waiting at the beach.
When I was little, I went out to the beach with my friends in the afternoon to push the baskets for everyone to go, and then I took a bath and went home.
Life is so peaceful and simple, but so precious to us now. Life is growing, young people no longer want to continue their father's fishing, due to the hard work, the income is not much.
They go to work in companies, corporations, ocean cruises that are just childhood memories. However, the boats still cling to the sea, sailing today, carrying fish, carrying squid...bringing hope back to those who are waiting in the land.
