Day 2 - Some Actual Food

There just aren't many places you can sit like this in England - eating good food, not being hassled to move on, free from noisy drunk people.

I became a little addicted to watching the radar view of thunder clouds coming towards us during this trip.

We went out to eat in the little town of Molsheim. There are three or four good restaurants in the main town square. We chose La Metzig mostly because it was open and the first one we came to. We tried two of the others later in the week, they were all good in their own ways.

The best thing about this was that it was warm, but not too hot. We could sit outside and just enjoy the family atmosphere of French people having dinner on a summer Sunday evening. After the hotel food (which was good, but a bit too fancy) I enjoyed the traditional sauerkraut with five meats - ham, bacon, two kinds of sausage and a liver paté. I also had some Gallettes des pommes de terre - literally potato pancakes, a bit like Latkes or a thin hash brown.

We got back to the hotel just in time to avoid a big thunderstorm that was heading our way. It's funny how you can feel the very subtle difference between the continental climate and our maritime temperate climate at home. Things move more slowly, I suppose, but you can just feel that the sea is a long way away somehow.

Dining out abroad has a different vibe, especially if you get away from the cities. I'd have to seek out some non-meaty options.

@steevc this town was founded by the local guild of butchers, so it's no real surprise. There were plenty of good veggie options too though :)
