Believe your experience and the experiences of others-- don't go by words alone in this case.

We will regret whatever we will regret (done or not done). It's just that some regrets are easier to handle than others.

If you have a chance to end a war, take that chance, and the war continues and becomes worse, that's just how things worked out; not much to be done about that. If you don't take that opportunity and things go worse, that's more regrettable because then second-guessing enters the picture and raises too many doubts and questions. The former situation has finality, and we can move on. The latter situation is inconclusive and always a bad thought away.
