What is Fika ☕🧁?

Anyone who has lived abroad has at one time or another experienced the question from a country's own citizens, "What do you like about this country?" I have been asked this question almost every time I make a new friend in Sweden since I started living in Stockholm.

There are many things I like about Sweden, such as its abundant nature, its harmonious work-life balance society, and its highly independent people, but one of my favorite things about Sweden, as I often answer, is its "fika culture" in Sweden.

According to one site, Sweden ranks 6th in the world in coffee consumption, consuming 8.2 kg of coffee beans per capita per year.

Some companies are encouraged to take "fika" time at work to better communicate with colleagues, and almost all Swedish companies have fika time. The company provides money for coffee and daily sweets, and the employee is given 15 minutes ish a day (well, it is not fixed. Some people fika more than 15 minutes and some people do not fika at all.) to talk about various topics. Sometimes they talk about work, but most of the time they talk about daily life or the hottest news of the day. Sadly, the most talked about topic is, of course, the Russian invasion of Ukraine these days.

Välkommen till Café Nestro!

The other day, I had a fika with a friend for the first time in a long time. Most of the time we usually have a bit of chocolate or a snack while having a fika, but this time we went to a stylish cafe called Cafe Testro and enjoyed a real fika. It is located in the city of Stockholm, at a place called Odenplan, near the Stockholm City Library designed by Asplund Gunnar.

A friend of mine knows that I like semla (My #HIVE ID includes Semla haha) , so she said, "I found a café that makes a delicious semla, let's go together!".

I especially liked the very stylish and relaxing atmosphere. They had a variety of sandwiches and I ordered a semla, a cup of coffee, a chocolate ball and a fig sandwich.

The waitress was very nice and made me want to come back again.

Sweden is known for its Fika culture. If you ask me what I like about Sweden, or what I would miss about Sweden if I were to go back to Japan, I would answer Fika and Semla.

Välkommen till Café Nestro!

Oh, you're from Sweden! The sister of my boyfriend's mom is living there!

And who doesn't want a fika, right? Here in my country, something near to Sweden's Fika is having a merienda or afternoon snacks. Maybe the only difference is that you can have merienda all by yourself.

That's nice to hear that you also know about #Fika! 🤩 I live in #Stockholm, but I am not Swedish. But, I just love #Fika so much!! I hope you also had a good fika! Have a good day!

Japan does have almost the same culture right? the "ocha time" ? 15 minute each, twice a day?
you can go out and have your fika outside your work place?

That's right! "Ocha time" is just like #fika ! 🤩 You know about Japanese culture a lot!!

actually I have been to Japan. i worked there as an interm in Agriculture as a kenshusei in Ibaraki.
it was a great experience to work there, but the culture lag is very big.

If only I have known steemit or hive back then I should be able to invest a bit into it. lol

I should have got to know about Steemit and Hive as earlier as possible, but I am glad that I got to know about #HIVE and stay with it. I am glad to know that you've been to Japan and have some working experience! I hope you had a good time there! 😉

So fika is coffee break?

Yeah, #fika simply means "coffee break" but it is more a cultural thing, I believe. Swedes love having a #fika and spending some coffee break with friends and colleges almost every day 🤩

Man, it looks like every day you're out eating?!?!

Yes! That's right! LOL! I have #fika almost every day with my friends or colleagues 😉👍🧁☕
