Cutting the hole was a real pain in the ass but the tool did the job. We ended cutting the circle in four sections to make it easier on our hands.

In case you're wondering which tool we used, it's the small red saw on top of the structure

All was upcycled material with the exception of the white plastic on top. Finally, it's usable, but we still need some adjustments in the shelter to finish installing it.

We're repurposing @fenngen 's old shelter to serve as bathroom and also a once to wash our dishes as we were doing so inside our room/house and it became very uncomfortable after we both spilled a lot of water in the same day 😅

Adding new fence posts to the extension of the garden. Now it will be more than twice it's original size!

Sowing carrots from seeds of our own harvest. How did we get carrot seeds in one year if it takes two for them to give off seeds? We grabbed some locally grown carrots and put them in the ground, it's very easy really.

Adding some forest soil to the seedbed. Previously we added sand too, as carrots like to have loose soil to dig in to.

@choli installed this mirror better than it was before inside the house. Now we can know how shabby we look each morning and do something about it.

@fenngen went out for some forest macros the other day and got some pretty decent shots for a Moto G. More of those in future posts.

Cats just make everything better don't they? Well, not everything but most things. Nezuko bids you farewell once again!

Greetings, scouts of the multiverse, we hope Life is feeling generous and meaningful to you.

Our adventure continues with that part that is often not shown to us in the epics of our ancestors and their road to living comfortably despite the adversities of Nature: how to take a shit and feel good about the whole business.

To us, using a modern toilet that mixes clean water with our waste into a sewer system that processes so much crap that no ecosystem could filter on it's own, is kind of a problem. Specially when all that could be rich compost for trees instead.

So we're not even interested in seeing up one of those, which is good, because it's a lot of work.

What people used to do around these parts was to make a huge hole and later a structure to sit on. This had two problems: the awful smell and horrible experience that it is to go poop there, and the fact that even though that can compost once it has filled and been covered, it will be toxic for a long time before it is fertile.

Folks into offgrid and permaculture lifestyles are probably familiar with a composting toilet. Basically you build a structure to sit on but instead of a big hole, you have a bucket that you can take out and move wherever you like when you're done.

There are a few ways you can go about this. You can either have a recipient with ashes or sawdust to throw on top of your turds once they're out, to avoid the smell. Also you can take a bucket with water and go flush it out directly to where you will be doing the compost.

On our next post we'll show you how it looks after installed and how it's used, as well as how your can compost it in an odorless way.

Thanks for stopping by!

That's a lot of hard work! Good thing you have somewhere comfortable to 'go' now

True, it was challenging to go outside when temperature was sub-zero 🥶

sub-zero... that'll be giving you a cold surprise when you sit down!

Yup, hard to get back up too

It's my first time reading your blog and I'm amazed. Living this kind of life is truly a living because I see you are happy. I'm excited to read how you installed it since I have no idea how it's done. How long are you living in the forest bro?

Soon a post on the installation, we'll tag you 😉 @fenngen has been here for two years and @choli for around a year

Oh, so it's been awhile. Sure bro, I'll wait for that.

Awesome....yeah those drop dunnies or long drops as we call them here stink and attract flies. Composting loos are so much better.

It's amazing how much vocabulary we have when it's time to talk about patties
