The Ateneo bookshop is the most famous bookshop in the city of Buenos Aires. It is located in the central Avenida de Santa Fe in the neighbourhood of Recoleta. From the year of the construction of the building, 1919, until 1982 it operated as a theatre under the name of Gran Splendid, where the best companies passed through it and it was the reference point for music in the capital of Argentina. It seems that the famous tango singer Carlos Gardel recorded his first album there. In 1982 it was converted into a cinema and was almost always the first to show the best international films. At the beginning of this century, the Ateneo bookstore chain signed a contract with the owner of the premises to convert it into a bookstore. The remodelling project was designed to preserve as much of the theatre's structure as possible, to the extent that the boxes, the dome and the stage, which houses a restaurant and cafeteria with piano included, were preserved intact. In 2019, National Geographic magazine considered it the most beautiful bookshop in the world.

Hey there @xaviduran
I've heard that BA is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. So I'm happy to know that it also houses the most beautiful book store. From your photo, it looks like there's so many books ! If someone can't find a book there, then they probably can't find it anywhere. LoL 😂😆 I enjoy your posts and photos. You always keep it entertaining. 😃

@jeridawn Many thanks for your kindness and support.

Yes, BA is a very charming city, full of activities with a cultural life outstanding. Without any hesitation, it worth a visit.

I have been told that BA is more like a very cool European city. My friend from there lived in the mountains. He told me how wonderful the climate is and at night it would be cool enough for a light jacket. Yes that's a place I'd love to see.

I am very surprised. However, literature and theater definitely belong together :-)
