Is there anything more recognizably Japanese than the torii gate? This torii isn't quite as iconic as the big one in the sea at Miyajima, but the object itself is probably one of the top symbols of the country.

The faded monochrome really makes this photo seem like something from another time. The only spoiler on that effect is the handrails on the steps.
