Los árboles de guayaba son una de las especies vegetales que se adaptan bien a las diferentes condiciones de precipitación, curiosamente están clasificadas como tolerantes al anegamiento. Sobreviven a las inundaciones y siguen creciendo en suelos temporalmente anegados.
Guava trees are one of the plant species that adapt well to different rainfall conditions, interestingly they are classified as waterlogging tolerant. They survive flooding and continue to grow in temporarily waterlogged soils.
También suelen ser más resistentes a la sequía que la mayoría de los frutales tropicales. Esta planta puede soportar un periodo de sequía de unos 6 meses.
They also tend to be more drought resistant than most tropical fruit trees. This plant can withstand a drought period of about 6 months.
Esta tolerancia a la sequía es sorprendente debido a su sistema radicular superficial. Las raíces superficiales se ramifican cerca del suelo y a menudo producen chupones o brotes secundarios desde las raíces cercanas a la base del tronco. Este sistema radicular generalmente superficial, el árbol lo compensa con la extensión y el número de raíces, que superan la proyección de la copa; hay algunas raíces profundas pero no hay una raíz pivotante definida.
This drought tolerance is surprising because of its superficial root system. The superficial roots branch close to the ground and often produce suckers or secondary shoots from roots near the base of the trunk. This generally superficial root system, the tree compensates with the extent and number of roots, which exceed the crown projection; there are some deep roots but no definite taproot.

Root suckers can be used to develop a new plant with the same characteristics of the original plant because it is genetically identical.

Drought tolerance is favored by the large number and extension of roots that exceed the diameter of the crown, and also the root system is what increases its ability to survive in areas where there are strong winds and storms thanks to the extension and number of roots that exceed the width of the canopy, which also allows this species to develop in a large number of different soils.

El árbol de guayaba ha sido para mí uno de los árboles más llamativos, así como el que llaman "bay-run" (que por cierto, tienen un cierto parecido en su tronco y ramas; no sé si serán familia). Es reconocible y respetable su firmeza, permanencia, casi altivez. Además de su sabroso fruto, también sus hojas tienen muchas propiedades (yo hago con ellas cada cierto tiempo infusiones, e incluso la uso en el cabello).
