Environmental Protection: A Way Of Sustaining The Earth.

The earth is a beautiful place to live and everything needed to make life easy for man has been made available to us. Plants, animals, and other natural resources are put in place for our comfort.

The question is "Are we humans protecting and ensuring the earth becomes more comfortable and suitable for living?"

Although some developed countries have put laws in place against any hazardous human activity that can affect the earth negatively. But what about developing countries like Nigeria that don't have a law that enforces environmental protection? I believe in making the earth safe for all, all countries should come together in achieving the goal of making the earth a safe place.

Using Nigeria as a case study. Due to the hike in the price of fuel and gas. Many have resulted in the act of deforestation i.e. illegal cutting down of trees. These trees are now used in cooking in replacement of gas and fuel, Of which the smoke coming out as a result of burning of trees while cooking is hazardous to the environment.

I dislike smoke that comes out from the firewood. I remember a time when I had a neighbor who always use firewood for cooking, the annoying part is that where she cooks is very close to my window. As soon as she starts cooking using firewood, my whole room will be full of smoke, it got to a stage that I couldn't bear it any longer, I had to look for another accommodation because I knew my health is at risk if I decided not to move out of the house.

Another issue is exhaust from mining companies which are contributing factors in the depletion of the ozone layer.

How about Car exhaust from faulty car engines? It's in Nigeria a driver will drive a faulty car comfortably on the public road all in the name of "managing and reserving money'. Many lives have been endangered through this nonchalant act. Exhaust from most of these cars is quite worse than that of firewood smoke and this has a negative impact on the earth.

A friend of mine shared a story of two of his friends who set bushes on fire in other to kill bush rats and grass cutters. This is disheartening. The damage they've caused to the earth is far greater.

No wonder, The kind of weather we are experiencing in Nigeria is getting harsh day by day. Recently, There was a serious heat wave in various states within the country. It was a serious one that everyone was scared of stepping out during the afternoon because the intensity of the heat was so high.

Lastly, The act of throwing refuse and plastics carelessly is causing great environmental pollution on Earth. It's so bad in Nigeria that dirt is thrown carelessly anywhere. Once it starts raining you will see how various houses will start bringing all kinds of dirt from their house and empty them in water drainage which has resulted in flooding of houses that has rendered many homeless.

To achieve environmental protection on Earth, we all need to play our part in making Earth safe to life. To have a Earth conducive for all. It starts with you and I.

Happy Earth Day!!!

wait? Nigerians don’t have laws for environmental protection?
Naaa, that’s serious because every country should have whether developed, underdeveloped or developing

There is, but it's not implemented or enforced on citizens.

Oh okay
