La realidad, esa vieja amiga nuestra que parece más bien nuestra enemiga. Siempre anda por allí, dándonos zarpazos cada vez que soñamos con ser astronautas pero les tenemos miedo a las alturas, cuando imaginamos que seremos excelentes cantantes que rebosan los escenarios de los conciertos pero que en verdad terminamos cantando en el coro de la iglesia, opacados por las voces restantes del grupo...
The reality is that old friend of ours who seems more like our enemy. She is always around, clawing at us every time we dream of being astronauts but we are afraid of heights, when we imagine that we will be excellent singers that overflow the concert stages but that we really end up singing in the church choir, overshadowed by the remaining voices of the group...
Así es esa amiga nuestra, porque ella lo que quiere es que aterricemos y no andemos quedando en ridículo por desear cosas tan absurdas, por no decir imposibles. Es que ella detesta la imaginación, su relación es cómo el agua y el aceite: nunca se combinan.

Desde que nacemos hay una eterna batalla entre lo que queremos que pase y lo que en realidad pasa. ¿Pero de quien es la culpa de que surja esa expectativa en nuestra mente? Es una respuesta fácil: de nosotros mismos, obvio. Es que queremos que el mundo sea sólo comprensible para nosotros, es decir, vemos el universo desde nuestro punto de vista, y a partir de allí esbozamos una lista de infinitos deseos que sacian nuestras esperanzas.

The reality: Neither Beethoven nor a 10 -or 20, in my country's case- rating.
Y qué pasa después de esa desilusión. Pasa que lloramos o nos sentimos muy mal por el hecho de que nuestra imaginación nos volvió a jugar sucio ¿Alguna vez lo has vivido? Si es así, tranquilo, eso le pasa a todo el mundo.

Yo, por ejemplo, soñaba desde niño con ser un gran médico. Curar a la gente y darle una paleta a todos los mis pacientes –es que las paletas son, ¿cómo les explico? Bueno, quizás algunas expectativas no sean tan comunes – ¿o sí?- pero ya entiende el ejemplo. Entre realidad y expectativa es preferible vivir de realidades, porque mientras más estemos conscientes de lo que realmente podemos lograr, más nos acercaremos a consolidarlo.
Well, maybe some expectations are not so common - are they? - But you already understand the example. Between reality and expectation it is preferable to live on realities, because the more we are aware of what we can really achieve, the closer we will to consolidating it.
No es malo soñar… malo es interpretar inadecuadamente el sueño.
