Coconut is called a fruit of life because all parts of the fruit can be consumed and have various natural benefits for health and beauty.

Unfortunately, the coconut fruit cannot last long if it has been opened. So we need special tricks so that we can still enjoy the whole coconut.

This time I will share tips on how to make dried coconut flakes. The conversion of fresh coconut into dried coconut flakes aims to extend the storage period of the coconut and to be used as a variety of additional delicious menu preparations.

We can also make vegan coconut butter more easily if we already have dried coconut flakes.

The Steps of making dried coconut flakes:

1. Take out the mature coconut meat into small pieces

After mature coconut is peeled, then split. The next process which takes time is taking out the coconut meat from the coconut shell.

In this process, I did not destroy the coconut shell. Besides later to reuse coconut shells into a bowl, the process of cutting coconut meat into coconut flakes will be easier.

Do it slowly and carefully using a knife.

Make sure to remove the coconut meat into coconut flakes with thin cuts not too thick.

2. After we get the coconut pieces, then wash them clean.

It doesn't matter if you get dirty pieces of coconut like this because of the powder from coconut shells.

3. Arrange coconut flakes in a wide container without overlapping with each other

In a wide container, arrange coconut flakes one by one. Do not let any parts that stick to each other.

4. Dry coconut flakes in a warm place but avoid in direct sunlight

Avoid direct sunlight when drying coconut flakes. This is to prevent the coconut flakes from burning.

Dry for two days.

NOTE: If you have a dehydrator, you can use it overnight.

5. Roasted (fried without oil) coconut flakes have not been carried out to store more fragrant aroma and increase the shelf life.

Keep stirring for a few minutes so the coconut flakes don't burn.

Lift and store in an airtight jar.

If you want to make vegan coconut butter, you should use coconut flakes while they are still hot after being roasted (fried without oil).

I made these dried coconut flakes as topping smoothies.

Besides being used as a topping smoothies, I use dried coconut flakes to make Choco Coconut Flakes snacks!

That was how I processed fresh coconut into dried coconut flakes which added value to the use and storage period.

Please give your feedback and have a great day!
