El personal de enfermería debe de conocer acerca de cómo se compone un catéter venoso central, esto es con el fin de que al momento de tener que manipularlo pueda ser más fácil la atención hacia el paciente.

El catéter venoso central lo podemos encontrar en diversas presentaciones de lúmenes y calibres. Podemos tener un CVC de 1 lúmen, 2 lúmenes o 3 lúmenes y pueden ser de alto calibre o bajo calibre.
The central venous catheter can be found in various presentations of lumens and gauges. We can have a CVC of 1 lumen, 2 lumens or 3 lumens and they can be high caliber or low caliber.
Al decir que es de alto calibre nos referimos a qué su manguera es gruesa, por lo que al pasar los medicamentos hay una mayor entrada del líquido. Sería todo lo contrario al decir que tenemos un CVC de bajo calibre.
When we say that it is of high caliber, we mean that its hose is thick, so that when the drugs pass there is a greater entry of the liquid. It would be the opposite to say that we have a low-caliber CVC.
En el área hospitalaria solemos ver con mayor frecuencia la instalación de CVC de 3 lúmenes de mayor o menor calibre. Es por eso que debemos conocer que se puede administrar por cada uno de los puertos.

Puerto próximal / Proximal port
Éste suele ser de color rojo, es el que está más cercano al corazón (es decir el que va más hacia dentro) en él se puede administrar medicamentos y sedantes, se puede recolectar sangre para la toma de muestras y transfundir sangre y hemoderivados al paciente.
This is usually red, it is the one that is closest to the heart (that is, the one that goes further inwards) where medications and sedatives can be administered, blood can be collected for sampling and blood and blood products can be transfused to the patient .
Puerto distal / Distal port
Éste suele ser de color amarillo, es el más distal es decir el que va más hacia afuera. En él se puede medir la presión venosa central (la presión que se ejerce en la vena cava superior, abreviado como PVC), se puede administrar grandes cantidades de líquidos como fluidos viscosos y coloides, tratamiento y transfusión de sangre y hemoderivados al paciente.
This is usually yellow, it is the most distal, that is, the one that goes further out. Puerto medial / Medial port
Es el puerto que se encuentra en la parte media, su color suele ser azul. En él se debe administrar solo nutrición parenteral (NTP), si el paciente no la tiene indicada se puede administrar medicamentos, pero de lo contrario no.

Es importante que el personal de enfermería conozca acerca de ésto ya qué gracias a la correcta manipulación del CVC se puede lograr administrar de forma correcta cada uno de los medicamentos.
