El estómago es uno de los órganos principales que conforman al sistema gastrointestinal, es un órgano el cual se encarga de descomponer los alimentos que han sido digeridos a través del esófago.
El estómago forma parte del tubo digestivo, siendo así su porción situada entre el esófago y los intestinos.
En nuestro cuerpo podemos encontrar el estómago ubicado por debajo del diafragma, localizado en la parte superior izquierda del abdomen.
El estómago posee la forma parecida a un pequeño saco, en el se logran mezclar y almacenar los alimentos y líquidos que han sido ingeridos. Es un órganos que se suele extender, por lo que su tamaño va a variar de acuerdo a las condiciones en las que se encuentre la persona, en esta situación de debe de considerar si el estómago se encuentra vació o lleno.
El estómago está compuesto por cuatro regiones principales, una de ellas se llama cardias, el fundus, el cuerpo y el píloro.
Dentro del estómago se secretan varias sustancias las cuales llevan por nombre "jugo gástrico", dicha sustancia es la encarga de favorecer el proceso de digestión y absorción de los medicamentos, gracias a esto se transforma algo llamado "quimo" lo cual vendría a ser la combinación de todos los alimentos convertidos en una pasta.
