La procedencia del café data de muchos siglos atrás Este contiene una sustancia psicoactiva llamada cafeína, por tal razón es una bebida estimulante. Dicha bebida se obtiene a través de cocido y precolado de la fruta ya procesada (pelado, secada y tostado) del café.
En la actualidad es mundialmente comercializado por todos los países, la bebida es preparada de muchas formas a nivel mundial. Además, existen varios tipos de granos que caracterizan de otros de acuerdo a su tamaño, sabor, origen, color u otras.
Como se mencionó anteriormente el café tiene su origen en tierras asiáticas, en la región de Kaffa perteneciente a las altas tierras de la antigua Etiopia. En las cuales las plantas de cafeto crecían de forma silvestre. Con el tiempo este rubro se fue expandiendo hasta llegar a continente americano. Es allí donde la planta se adapta al clima tropical la cual es sembrada y producida en Colombia, Vietnam y Brasil, el mismo, actual merecedor de un tercio de la producción mundial.
¿Cómo llegó el café a Venezuela?
“En un día festivo de 1786 las grandes familias de Caracas se reunieron en la Hacienda Blandin actual Country Club los cuales fueron invitados a presenciar una insólita ceremonia. La intención de esta fiesta era probar una nueva sustancia psicoactiva que cambiaría para siempre el destino de toda Venezuela, se decía que al probar este brebaje el cuerpo se llenaba de una asombrosa vitalidad y el cerebro adquiría lucidez absoluta. ¿Qué era esta sustancia? Tres hombres que habían sido los responsables de aquella extaña reunión social.
El padre Mohedano, Pedro Palacios y Blanco y Bartolomé Blandin, entre los tres habían sembrado cincuenta mil plantas para producir esta exótica sustancia luego de un paseo por los sembradíos, música y baile, el protocolo retiró todas las mesas de la fiesta y dejó una en el centro con tres floreros y tazas especialmente traídas de China y Japón. En medio del enorme y solemne silencio el padre Mohedano se acercó a la mesa se sirvió un poco de este brebaje lo probó, sonrió y llamó a los invitados a probar por primera vez en sus vidas una taza de café”.
