Hive Portrait Contest Week 3: On location with studio lights.

in GEMS6 years ago

I have to admit, i have become a bit lazy. Even though i love shoots on locations i tend to shoot in a studio environment on the background the most because it consumes least amount of time. And planning is so much easier.

Location when combined with studio lights will always (well lets not be absolute here, almost in every case) add to the final image. Background will help to tell the story, or will be a more appealing backdrop than a seamless paper background. If you have a few studio lights at your disposal, creative light on the background can enhance the image even more.

I knew some hosts from a well known radio station here in Lithuania. The Christmas was approaching so they needed some content that would compliment the mood. The only time i was making money from the photography was when i was doing wedding 5 years ago, that i do not do anymore. Any other projects were always free, i just probably suck at selling. So in this case we just had some fun again, free of charge.

And that tends to be the case with many photographers that i know. They create a lot of professional content but tend to struggle financially most of the time. That is probably the nature of artistic personalities, it seems we simply can't put a price tag on our creativity :)

What do you think, does it have any Christmas or holiday vibe to it or did i fail? :)

Currently i am planning an outdoors shoot with one model. Planning for a few weeks or so already. it is either bad weather, or wrong timing or something else, but i believe we will do it eventually. I have a battery powered studio light that i will be taking out and i am curious to see what results can we achieve on location :)

This photo is so satisfying. I prefer location shoots than indoor. I tend to be more creative with the photos taken outside. I also take into account the color grading. Studio portraits are mostly straightforward. Especially in my country where they don't really attach value to any artistic elements you might want to add.

that's me for sure... 😂

I love this portrait, there is some chill-sophisticate-but-not-snobbish mood I enjoy 😊
