A piece of Japan in Brisbane

I´ve been to Brisbane in Australia quite a few times but haven´t visited the official Botanic Gardens there. The garden is located a little outside the city in the Toowong district at the foot of Mount Coot-tha.

After seeing a lot the days before, including the West End district, on the last day we had the chance to explore the botanical garden for about an hour.

First of all, one hour is far too little to see even half of the whole garden. So we decided to look primarily at the Japanese Garden, although there is so much more to discover here.

Ich war schon einige Male in Brisbane in Australien, habe dort aber den offiziellen Botanic Gardens nicht besucht. Der Garten liegt etwas außerhalb der Stadt im Stadtteil Toowong am Fuße des Mount Coot-tha.

Nachdem wir die Tage zuvor schon einiges gesehen habe, unter anderem den Stadtteil West End, hatten wir am letzten Tag noch die chance den Botanischen garten für etwa eine Stunde zu erkunden.

Eines gleich vorweg, eine Stunde ist viel zu wenig um auch nur die Hälfte des ganzen Garten zu sehen. Deshalb haben wir uns entschieden, in erster Linie den Japanischen Garten anzuschauen, obwohl es hier so viel mehr zu entdecken gibt.

The park with a total of 52 hectares was opened in 1976. At that time there was already a botanical garden in the middle of the city center. Since there was no way to expand the park there and there was constant flooding, it was decided to build another park outside the city.

Der park mit insgesamt 52 Hektar wurde 1976 eröffnet. Zu dieser Zeit gab es bereits einen Botanischen Garten inmitten des Stadtzentrums. Da es dort aber keine Möglichkeit gab den Park zu erweitern und es ständig zu Überschwemmungen kam, entschloss man sich für einen weiteren Park außerhalb der Stadt.

There is a lot to see and do here. Apart from the various areas such as the Tropical Dome, the Fern House, the Exotic Rainforest or the Australian Plant Communities there are also regularly held events for visitors such as Yoga or painting class.

Es gibt hier jede Menge zu sehen und zu erleben. Abgesehen von den verschiedenen Bereichen wie z.B. der Tropical Dome, das Fern House, den Exotic Rainforest oder die Australian Plant Communities finden auch immer wieder Veranstaltung für Besucher statt wie z.B. Yoga oder Malunterricht.

Although there is so much to see here we got stuck in the Japanese Garden. The garden and the associated Bonsai House are absolutely beautiful. It really is the perfect place to relax and unwind. We always wanted to go to Japan, especially to marvel at the cherry blossom there, luckily it has just bloomed here.

There is also a pond with a small waterfall.

Obwohl es hier so viel zu sehen gibt sind wir im Japanischen Garten hängen geblieben. Der Garten sowie das dazugehörige Bonsai Haus sind wirklich wunderschön. Es ist wirklich der perfekte Ort um ein wenig runter zu kommen und abzuschalten. Wir wollten schon immer einmal nach Japan, vor allem auch um dort die Kirschblüte zu bestaunen, glücklicherweise hat sie hier gerade geblüht.

Einen Teich mit einem kleinen Wasserfall gibt es auch.

I found the Bonsai House with its many bonsai trees most fascinating and beautiful. More than 50 trees can be seen here including figs, conifers, camellias, azaleas and maples, some of which are over 65 years old.

It takes a lot of experience to keep such trees alive for such a long time. On this day I decided that I would like to buy such a tree one day, because I find it simply impressive.

Am faszinierendsten und schönsten fand ich das Bonsai Haus mit seinen vielen Bonsai Bäumen. Mehr als 50 Bäume sind hier zu betrachten inklusive Feigen, Nadelbäume, Kamelien, Azaleen und Ahorn von denen einige über 65 Jahre alt sind.

Es bedarf sehr viel Erfahrung um solche bäume über eine so lange Zeit am Leben zu erhalten. An diesem Tag habe ich mich dazu entschieden dass ich mir so einen Baum eines Tages zulegen möchte, da ich sie einfach beeindruckend finde.

All in all, the visit was really worth it. I would go there again just for the Japanese garden. Since the Botanical Garden does not even cost entry, you shouldn't think twice and just go there and enjoy.

Alles in allem hat sich der Besuch wirklich sehr gelohnt. Alleine für den Japanischen Garten würde ich noch einmal dort hingehen. Da der Botanische Garten nicht einmal Eintritt kostet sollte man nicht lange überlegen und einfach hingehen und genießen.
