I am from Mexico, therefore my language is Spanish, a language that I love, not only for being my native language, but also for its richness. However it is a fact that much of the content that one can find in the world, whether entertainment, internet, books, etc, is in English, and Hive is no exception.
I don't have the data to back it up, but the number of English-speaking users on Hive, if not the largest, is one of the most significant, and that has given rise to the craze for bilingual publications. The idea behind them is to reach a wider audience, which makes all the sense in the world, but are they really reaching a wider audience, or is it just an illusion, a mirage?
I generally consume a lot of content in English, but when it comes to Hive the truth is that I barely have time to review content in Spanish, and only eventually read publications in English. Logic tells me that for English speakers, with an even greater supply of content on Hive, the same may be true.

I don't doubt that in very niche Hive communities, the English language is a tool to unify content and make it more accessible to members, but in general, I think, or rather I suppose, that not many English-speaking Hivers read bilingual or non-English publications, unless they are learning it or want to practice it.
That said, it never ceases to amaze me how Spanish-language communities invite their members to participate in initiatives and contests, and put in their requirements that publications must be bilingual to be considered. To be honest I don't see any sense in this rule.
I publish bilingual posts, but about very specific things, and always short posts, because otherwise they become too long and heavy for the reader, and instead of attracting him to read your content, you drive him away from it.

If you are an English speaker, do you read bilingual or other language publications on a regular basis? It would help me a lot to know your experience, because this is a topic that I think we need to talk more about, as well as those texts that are published in several languages and then their authors are penalized for it, but that is another topic that maybe we will deal with another time.

Estoy de acuerdo con lo que expresas. Lo que considero lamentable, es que la gran mayoría (más del 90%) de los textos bilingües (castellano-inglés) que se publican en Hive, se escriben usando traductores automáticos.
En lo personal, nunca los uso, salvo para consultas muy específicas.
Mi opinión es que los autores no debieran publicar textos completos en idiomas que desconocen.

Totalmente de acuerdo contigo. Si no conoces un idioma no publiques en el. Los traductores son para agilizar el trabajo, no para sustituirlo, son como los correctores autográficos, una herramienta. Si no eres capaz de revisar la traducción de un traductor automático y corregir sus errores mejor no lo uses. Saludos, amigo.
