Hello everyone!
Two days ago I received my university degree as an Industrial Engineer, in the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic that is going through the entire world at the moment and I want to tell you a little about how it was:
Todo comenzó hace una semana: La universidad donde estudié anunció que en vista de las restricciones que hay a causa de la Pandemia del virus COVID-19 realizarían la entrega de títulos de manera sencilla, puesto que el acto de grado estaba suspendiendo (INDEFINIDAMENTE).
It all started a week ago: The university where I studied announced that in view of the restrictions that there are due to the COVID-19 virus pandemic, they would deliver the degrees in a simple way, since the degree act was suspending (INDEFINIDELY).
También anunciaron que los estudiantes que quisiera esperar dicho acto, podrían hacerlo, siempre y cuando fueran conscientes de que dicha actividad no tenía ni siquiera una fecha tentativa porque todo tipo de actos y celebraciones grandes están prohibidos actualmente.
They also announced that students who wanted to wait for such an act could do so, as long as they were aware that the activity did not even have a tentative date because all kinds of large acts and celebrations are currently prohibited.
Yo sinceramente NO SABIA QUÉ HACER, quería esperar el acto de grado, pues es la ilusión que tiene todo estudiante desde el momento en el que se inscribe en una universidad, pero por otra parte me angustiaba la incertidumbre de lo que podría suceder más adelante y yo no tendría mi titulo a la mano.
I honestly DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO, I wanted to wait for the graduation ceremony, since it is the illusion that every student has from the moment they enroll in a university, but on the other hand I was distressed by the uncertainty of what could happen later and I wouldn't have my title at hand.
Finalmente luego de pensarlo bastante decidí retirarlo. Además todos mis amigos lo harían también y podría al menos tomarme fotos con ellos retirando nuestro títulos. Así que el miércoles en la mañana mi mamá y yo emprendimos nuestros viaje a la ciudad de Barquisimeto - Lara (Desde Guanare - Portuguesa).
Finally after thinking about it a lot I decided to withdraw it. Also all my friends would do it too and I could at least take pictures with them removing our titles. So on Wednesday morning my mother and I started our trip to the city of Barquisimeto - Lara (From Guanare - Portuguesa).
Luego de dos horas de viaje llegamos a Cabudare - Lara que es donde está ubicada mi universidad, fuimos a casa de mi tía (donde viví durante mis 4 años de estudios en esa universidad), me cambié y me arreglé un poco y fui a la universidad. Allí el protocolo de seguridad era bastante estricto, pasé por varios controles de temperatura y desinfección y luego me atendieron.
After two hours of traveling we arrived at Cabudare - Lara, which is where my university is located, we went to my aunt's house (where I lived during my 4 years of studies at that university), I changed and got a little groomed and went to college. There the security protocol was quite strict, I went through several temperature and disinfection controls and then they attended to me.
Esta soy yo esperando a que me llamaran para recibir mi título. // This is me waiting to be called to receive my degree.
Revisaron mis documentos y me llamaron para hacerme entrega de mi titulo y mi medalla.
They reviewed my documents and called me to present my title and medal.
Cuando tome mi título tuve una gran cantidad de sentimientos encontrados: felicidad y satisfacción por haber logrado esa meta después de muchos años de esfuerzo y dedicación, y a la vez nostalgia y tristeza por recibirlo de esa manera tan sencilla y no en un podium de la mano de las autoridades de la universidad en un acto de grado majestuoso como siempre me lo imaginé. De hecho, no me permitieron tomar fotos del momento en el que lo recibí, ni siquiera pudo entra mi mamá conmigo, todo lo viví sola con una mascarilla en mi cara.
When I took my degree I had a lot of mixed feelings: happiness and satisfaction for having achieved that goal after many years of effort and dedication, and at the same time nostalgia and sadness for receiving it in such a simple way and not on a podium hand in hand from the university authorities in an act of majestic degree as I always imagined. In fact, they did not allow me to take photos of the moment I received it, my mother could not even enter with me, I lived everything alone with a mask on my face.
Pero sé que así debía ser, soy creyente en Dios y pienso que si así lo decidió él para mí es porque así tenía que ser. Igual no deja de ser uno de los momentos más importantes de mi vida.
But I know that this should be the case, I am a believer in God and I think that if he decided that way for me it is because that is the way it had to be. The same is still one of the most important moments of my life.
Lo primero que hice fue correr al estacionamiento de la universidad, donde mi mamá me esperaba y abrazarla. Ambas lloramos un poco emocionadas por haber logrado ese diploma.
The first thing I did was run to the university parking lot, where my mom was waiting for me and hug her. We both cried a little excited for having achieved that diploma.
También estaba un amigo que también había ido a retirar su título y tuvo que ir solo porque su familia no podía viajar a acompañarlo.
There was also a friend who had also gone to withdraw his title and had to go alone because his family could not travel to accompany him.
Luego de eso mi mamá y yo fuimos a comprar una rica comida para almorzar, debido a las restricciones tuvimos que pedir la comida para llevar y comer en casa de mi tía.
After that, my mom and I went to buy a delicious meal for lunch, due to the restrictions we had to order takeout and eat at my aunt's house.

felicitaciones! lastima que no pudiste tener tu acto, sin embargo el titulo y medalla representan todos esos años de esfuerzo, y realmente hay un punto en la vida donde no hay mayor felicidad que el obtenerlos.
