¿Cómo enseñar y cuidar a tu gato?
Si eres como yo que no tenía idea de gatos, y le tocó aprender por inercia. Estos tips o sugerencias que aprendí pueden ayudarte también con tu Michi. Toda mi vida he sido persona de perros, desde muy chico he tenido cachorros, han quedado en los buenos recuerdos familiares.
Recientemente, unas semanas atrás estaba creando un artículo de PeakD, y de pronto comencé a escuchar maullidos. Salí al jardín y para mi sorpresa había un gatito muy pequeño y desorientado, alguien debió dejarlo abandonado. Lo tomé y lo ingresé a la casa. Como enseñanza iniciar NO LES DES COMIDA DE HUMANOS.
Sus organismos, al igual que los perros, son realmente delicados y estos alimentos no permiten que obtengan un buen crecimiento. Se recomienda comprarles leche líquida, ya que les encanta; si no es procesada mucho mejor. Adicional a esto, es necesario comprarle gatarina, cuyo precio por kilo suele ser bastante accesible incluso en países como Venezuela. Un kilo fácilmente podría durarles 2 a 3 semanas en etapas iniciales de crecimiento.
¿Y como hacer con sus necesidades?
Inicialmente, visitaba amistades que tenían gatos y notaba que siempre existía un olor fuerte en estos lugares, por lo que su mantenimiento habitual debe ser frecuente, cada par de días sería ideal. Primero conseguí arena y con emboplast o plástico trasparente cubrí la superficie de una caja de zapatos sin uso. Había llenado todo de arena, pero luego se hace un poco de desorden porque "Bruno" escarbaba y botaba algo de arena al suelo. Lo que se me ocurrió fue colar un poco de arena que había en el jardín para eliminar piedras y suciedad, luego tener una capa fina de arena en la caja y a medida que vaya haciendo sus necesidades, irle aplicando arena previamente reunida en otro envase donde con una pala de plástico o una improvisada con cartón vayamos echando sobre sus "regalitos" a fin de que el aroma quede sellado, al transcurrir los días máximos de almacenamiento se pueden depositar en un rincón del jardín y la madre naturaleza se encargará del resto.
No es necesario que este proceso se haga por siempre, basta con las primeras semanas de crecimiento del gatito. Luego, con sacarlo al pateo se acostumbrará a usar el jardín para sus necesidades.
Y ahora la gran pregunta: ¿Cómo hacer que haga dentro de su caja de arena?
Yo estaba en ese momento diciéndome, tendré problemas para que aprenda, hasta que una vecina experimentada en gatos me explico lo fácil que es enseñarles. Solo debes sujetar sus patitas cuando recién creas la caja de arena, y hacer que las arrastre sobre la arena, luego dejarlo sobre la misma; apenas notes que él lo hace por su cuenta, ya sabrá por arte natural que hacer cuando tenga ganas de hacer del 1 o del 2.
¿Cuándo bañarlo?
Para su primer baño es aconsejable que sea luego de las primeras 6 semanas de su etapa de crecimiento, para que el gato no intente salirse o arañar, puedes conseguirle una correa de gatos y abrir la llave, pero permitirle curiosear por su mismo, llegará un momento en que se deje rociar con el agua, y podrás darle un baño rápido, puedes comprar un champú especial para gatos o usar alguno sin químicos que representen daño para su piel. Luego de su primer baño puedes bañarlo cada 2 semanas o incluso cada mes.
¿Y sus momentos de juego?
Si tienes pensado dormir con él, no lo enseñes a jugar en la cama, que todas esas actividades sea en un solo lugar de la casa, puedes buscar juguetes, o una bola de estambre o pabilo y juegas cada cierto tiempo con él. El no dejarlo jugar sobre la cama, evitará que en caso de que duermas con él, intente jugar con las sabanas de madrugada y te arañe creyendo que alguna parte de tu cuerpo es una presa.
¿Forma adecuada para regañarlo?
No intentes golpearlo, ya que son mascotas que no comprenden como los perros en ciertos casos, si hace algo indebido lo mejor es, indicarle que está mal lo que ha hecho y darle suavemente con una hoja de papel envuelta o si se encuentra en una zona indebida donde no debería como el comedor, rociarle agua en spray; eso lo espantará sin generarle ningún estrés y huirá de la escena. Hasta que con solo mostrarle el spray evitará hacer lo que intenta.

How to teach and care for your cat?

Their organisms, like dogs, are really delicate and these foods do not allow them to obtain a good growth. It is recommended to buy them liquid milk, since they love it; if it is not processed much better. In addition to this, it is necessary to buy catarina, whose price per kilo is usually quite accessible even in countries like Venezuela. A kilo could easily last them 2 to 3 weeks in the initial stages of growth.
And how to deal with their needs?
Initially, I visited friends who had cats and noticed that there was always a strong odor in these places, so their regular maintenance should be frequent, every couple of days would be ideal. First I got litter and with emboplast or clear plastic I covered the surface of an unused shoe box. I had filled everything with sand, but then it becomes a bit of a mess because "Bruno" would dig around and dump some sand on the floor. What I came up with was to strain some sand that was in the garden to remove stones and dirt, then have a thin layer of sand in the box and as he goes doing his needs, go applying sand previously gathered in another container where with a plastic shovel or one improvised with cardboard we go throwing on his "gifts" so that the aroma is sealed, after the maximum days of storage can be deposited in a corner of the garden and Mother Nature will take care of the rest.
It is not necessary that this process is done forever, it is enough with the first weeks of growth of the kitten. Then, by kicking it out, it will get used to using the garden for its needs.
And now the big question: How to make him do inside his litter box?
I was at the time saying to myself, I'll have trouble getting him to learn, until an experienced cat neighbor explained to me how easy it is to teach him. You just hold his paws when you first create the litter box, and have him drag them over the litter, then leave him on it; as soon as you notice that he does it on his own, he will naturally know what to do when he feels like doing 1 or 2.
When to bathe it?
For his first bath it is advisable that it is after the first 6 weeks of his growth stage, so that the cat does not try to get out or scratch, you can get him a cat leash and open the faucet, but allow him to browse by himself, there will come a time when he will let himself be sprayed with water, and you can give him a quick bath, you can buy a special shampoo for cats or use one without chemicals that represent damage to their skin. After his first bath you can bathe him every 2 weeks or even every month.
What about playtime?
If you plan to sleep with him, do not teach him to play on the bed, all these activities should be in one place in the house, you can look for toys, or a ball of yarn or wick and play every so often with him. Not letting him play on the bed will prevent him, in case you sleep with him, from trying to play with the sheets in the early morning and scratching you thinking that some part of your body is a prey.
Proper way to scold him?
Do not try to hit him, since they are pets that do not understand like dogs in certain cases, if he does something wrong the best thing is to indicate him that what he has done is wrong and hit him gently with a wrapped sheet of paper or if he is in an inappropriate area where he should not be such as the dining room, spray him with water spray; this will scare him away without generating any stress and he will flee from the scene. Even if you just show him the spray, he will avoid doing what you are trying to do.
