The hidden Bulgaria / La Bulgaria oculta [ENG/ESP]

One of the things I like the most when I go to a new city is discovering its abandoned places. Often the tourist side is just a facade made to satisfy the visitor, but it doesn't tell much about the true spirit of the place. On the contrary, places removed from public attention reveal a hidden reality that reveals much more about the roots of the place and the local way of life. And also visually they can be much more stimulating than tourist spaces, which often comply with a very neutral and generalist design to be pleasing to the average tourist regardless of their origin and personal tastes. Abandoned places fortunately escape this kind of industrial aesthetic.

ESP: Una de las cosas que más me gusta cuando voy a una ciudad nueva es descubrir sus lugares abandonados. A menudo el lado turístico es solo una fachada hecha para satisfacer al visitante, pero no cuenta mucho sobre el verdadero espíritu del lugar. Por el contrario, los lugares apartados de la atención pública muestran una realidad oculta que nos revela mucho más sobre las raíces del lugar y la forma de vida local. Y además visualmente pueden ser mucho más estimulantes que los espacios turísticos, que a menudo cumplen con un diseño muy neutro y generalista para ser gratos al turista medio cualquiera que sea su procedencia y gustos personales. Los lugares abandonados escapan afortunadamente a esta especie de estética industrial.

This is a central but hidden place in the heart of Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria. A few streets from the imposing cathedral is an old socialist construction, today abandoned and weathered.

Este es un lugar céntrico pero escondido en el corazón de Sofía, la capital de Bulgaria. A pocas calles de la imponente catedral se encuentra una antigua construcción socialista, hoy abandonada y dañada por los elementos.

In this secluded place I was able to find not only interesting scenes and textures, but also curious objects (like the book at the top of the post) that I now "collect" in the form of photographs.

En este lugar recóndito pude encontrar no solo escenarios y texturas interesantes, sino curiosos objetos (como el libro que encabeza el post) que ahora "colecciono" en forma de fotografías.
