More than 200 years ago the Act of Independence was signed, where seven representatives of the General Captaincy declared the liberation from the Spanish yoke.
For this reason I wanted to honor this event by showing you a historical monument of my hometown.

La Casa Fuerte
En su momento esta casa era conocida como "el convento de San Francisco" pero en el año 1817 debido a la guerra que se estaba librando, Simón Bolívar (Nuestro Libertador) la convirtió en un fuerte, como medida de defensa ante los ataques realistas.
Ese mismo año, Bolívar decidió abandonar la ciudad de Barcelona y dejar al general Freites y a Chamberlain al mando. Sin embargo, cuando Bolívar se marchó, se llevó consigo casi todo el armamento y la artillería que había, esto provocó que Barcelona quedara a merced de los ataques enemigos.
12 días después, las fuerzas españolas decidieron tomar el control de la ciudad. Todos los soldados y habitantes que se refugiaban en la fortaleza, lucharon hasta donde su capacidad les permitió, sin embargo, el resultado fue inevitable. Los realistas los superaban en volumen y fuerza, así que la gente que estaba allí fue encarcelada o asesinada. Lo que quedó de la casa fueron sólo escombros y algunas estructuras ruinosas.

Al morir su marido, los realistas la sometieron e incluso le quitaron la ropa, por eso sale con la bandera de Venezuela. Según algunos escritos, nuestra heroína en medio de esa masacre agarró la bandera y la usó para cubrirse.
Sólo si proclamaba desistir a la causa independentista la dejarían vivir, pero Eulalia no se doblegaria, así que tomó la pistola del guardia que la retenía y le disparó.
"¡Viva la Patria!... ¡Muerte a los tiranos!" Esas fueron sus últimas palabras antes de ser asesinada.
Como pueden ver, estas paredes están llenas de historias y patriotismo, por eso me encanta este lugar. Cada vez que paso por allí, mis ojos se dirigen a esta casa y recuerdo todo lo que he aprendido sobre ella. Es sin duda, uno de los lugares más bonitos de mi ciudad.

The strong house

Only if she proclaimed to desist to the independence cause they would let her live, but Eulalia would not bend, so she took the pistol of the guard who was holding her and shot him.
"Long live the homeland!... Death to the tyrants!" Those were her last words before she was assassinated.
As you can see, these walls are full of stories and patriotism, that's why I love this place. Every time I pass by, my eyes are drawn to this house and I remember everything I have learned about it. It is without a doubt one of the most beautiful places in my city.
