Church Yard Crocuses

in GEMS3 years ago (edited)

I visited a local church today as I'd heard there was a carpet of crocuses in the church yard. I wasn't disappointed. It was a sea of purple.

It was a lovely day with lots of shadows across the grass. We found a few professional photographers taking photos as well as people just passing through.

This church also holds the vault of the ‘Father of Railways’, George Stephenson who built the first commercial locomotive and railways. He died in 1848 and is buried in the church. A memorial slab is in the floor of the church. Unfortunately, the church is closed at the moment so I couldn't go in and see the vault. However, his wife is buried in the church yard.

Apparently, more and more flowers have appeared over the years. It was a lovely sight and quite popular with visitors. It makes you feel better with Spring on the horizon.

That's beautiful! :)

Thank you. It was lovely to see.

Very beautiful display of the crocus, we are still under about 2 feet of snow and still have some winter to go, but yes, looking forward the the first spring flowers.

Wow. Two foot of snow sounds good! I am ready for a bit of sun though.

It has been a pretty mild winter for us so no real complaints about it. It just takes along time for our Spring to start, but holding out hope for an early one.
