We had a walk to Silverhill which is an artificial hill near Teversal in Nottinghamshire. It is one of the highest points in the county at approximately 670ft.
I wanted to see the miner's sculpture. Silverhill Colliery closed in the 1990s and landscaped over in 2005 by the local Council.
The sculpture is called 'Testing for Gas', and was created by artist Antony Dufort. It is to commemorate the miners of the Nottinghamshire Coalfields. My dad was a coal miner at home in Derbyshire, so I found the sculpture very poignant. I still have his Davey Lamps next to the fire.
There's a few trails around the area where you can walk or cycle. It was nice to see the lovely, red poppies in the field. Thankfully, it was a lot cooler today to walk around.
