Old Lime Kilns on the Monsal Trail in Derbyshire

in GEMS2 years ago

We revisited some old lime kilns on the Monsal Trail, which is a disused railway line.

A nearby sign explained the lime kilns operated from 1878 and produced quarried limestone for the steel, chemical and agricultural industry. Nature has taken over and the area is now a nature reserve.

After the lime kilns we just had a little mooch around the place.

There was a big drop to the road below.

We didn’t go down the steps as we didn't fancy walking back up. That is another walk for another day.

We spotted some fungi growing on some rotten wood. I think it has several names such as yellow brain or golden jelly fungi.

We came across quite a few different footpaths leading in several directions. It was definitely a place to explore more.

Very nice place for a whole day expedition with a basket of food and drink! So many interesting nature trails there!

We make sure there's always food nearby. 😁

Looks so lovely. We will have to let you know when we are passing close by

Yes, look forward to it!
