Hoy les escribo sobre hormigas específicamente “Bachacos” bueno esta especie en particular se llama Atta. Tienen muchos nombres a lo largo de todo el continente y uno de los nombres es “Hormiga Culona” cosa que no comparto ya que si se fijan bien son más cabezones que otra cosa.

Ha estos insectos lo podemos ver desde dos puntos de vistas muy diferentes:
El primero como maquinas destructivas hechas por la naturaleza sin que sepamos con que finalidad, porque si nos descuidamos, cargan nuestros cultivos… Estos que ven aquí ya han acabado con algunos de mis cultivos, eran cultivos muy pequeños de doce o quince plantas pero igual acabaron con ellos.

Al principio pensé que estos trabajan solo o que estaban bravos con los demás y decidieron trabajar aparte… Luego me explicaron que ellos son los encargados de cortar para que los demás carguen todos los trozos que van cayendo y este sería el segundo punto de vista… Son comunidades bien organizadas y trabajadoras.

Se puede ver como logran enterrar sus pinzas en el cactus a pesar de lo duro que es, lo cual me hace recordar que, en una ocasión fui atacada por uno de ellos, yo limpiaba una planta cuando de repente sentí un fuerte piquete en el brazo, era una de estas hormigas y enterró sus pinzas tan duro que al sacudirla solo quedo su cabeza pegada a mi piel y el dolor aumento.

Muchas cosas de estas hormigas son sorprendentes, por ejemplo yo quería saber de qué tamaño podría ser el nido donde viven ya que si son tantas deben tener espacios muy amplios para guardar todo esto que cargan, estuve leyendo en Wikipedia que los nidos pueden alcanzar los 80 metros de largo y hasta más de 5 metros de profundidad, pero más sorprendente es que los nidos pueden durar más de treinta años… Bueno si nada las molesta. Yo las he fastidiado tanto metiendo el pico de la manguera en su nido que se han tenido que mudar a otros terrenos pero igual vienen hasta mi patio a cargar mis pequeñas plantas.

Many things about these ants are surprising, for example I wanted to know how big the nest could be where they live since if there are so many they must have very wide spaces to store all that they carry, I was reading on Wikipedia that nests can reach 80 meters long and up to more than 5 meters deep, but more surprising is that nests can last more than thirty years... Well if nothing bothers them. I have annoyed them so much by putting the spout of the hose in their nest that they have had to move to other fields but they still come to my courtyard to carry my little plants.
