Simple Practices To Help You Overcome Tough Times

Esteemed readers, I'm sharing a method that helped me immensely during my most formidable trial thus far. The "ritual" emerged organically and spontaneously as a synthesis of my accrued experience and knowledge of Biblical teachings.

My mentor used to say the sole path to failure lies in the shattering of our focus. Thus, irrespective of the assailing tempests and surrounding misery, the imperative remains—steadfastness, an unwavering commitment to the vision with an unyielding grip.

Where there is no vision, the people perish, but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. - Proverbs 29:18 (KJV)

Subduing and reprogramming the mind is the paramount feat we may undertake and the only way to get ahead fairly and righteously. Spiritually and mentally immature people rely on luck, a capricious force incapable of producing and securing the genuine riches of life: love, beauty, wisdom, joy, and other blessings that elevate our experience.

If there is no enemy within, the enemy outside can do us no harm.

The world has deliberately contaminated the fertile soil of our minds with seeds of destruction from a very early age. Understand, therefore, that there's no miraculous antidote to this condition. Do not expect immediate, tangible results from the remedy I'm about to share. Transformation unfolds gradually, demanding time, effort, steadfastness, consistency, and baby-like faith. The growth path is strewn with discomfort.

Before we dive into the subject, I would be remiss without underscoring that the best time to work on the inner self is in the evening, when the analytical mind (the guardian) is lulled, permitting us passage through the gate without any questions. It takes roughly 21 days for the new tapestry of habits and beliefs to get embedded. Beyond this threshold, the metamorphosis intensifies. Beware of the terror barrier! The mind is a cunning machine capable of orchestrating uncomfortable situations to fray the edges of your resolve. Whatever comes up, pierce through!

Step One: Crafting a Self-Image

As highlighted earlier, the meticulous construction and vigilant safeguarding of a crystalline vision is the crux of the matter. Craft lists and delineate daily, weekly, and monthly goals. The linchpin to achieving each task resides in the realm of mindset, i.e., the right attitude. Through this lens, you unlock the portal to unleash the supreme version of yourself and materialize your envisioned destiny.

Begin by severing the shackles of limiting beliefs and the insidious dictates of the world. Instead, cultivate a garden of the most noble attributes conceivable. Merge the virtues of historical figures who kindle your heart into a picture of the person you aspire to become. Add the spice of your imagination, for within it lies the unique fingerprint of your essence and purpose. Set no boundaries, for there's no reason why you cannot surpass your heroes.

Know Thyself: Delve into the minutiae of this heavenly-crafted and divinely-led being to contemplate the finest details. For instance,

  • Whose tears would stir your empathy?

  • What subjects would ignite your curiosity and inspire you?

  • What projects would you undertake?

Having sculpted a vivid vision of the person you aspire to become, embark on a transformative journey through reflection, nourishment, and cultivation. Treat the seed of greatness within you as a living entity (because it is), providing it with the sustenance it needs to flourish. When faced with challenges, pause and ponder, "How would the supreme version of me respond to this?" By consistently applying this practice, you initiate a subtle but profound shift in your paradigm, thus unveiling your dormant potential.

Daily introspection: Regularly assess whether your current actions and mindset align with the sage-like qualities you seek to embody. This trick serves as a GPS, guiding you toward congruence with the envisioned "master" within, fostering a harmonious integration of your actions and aspirations.

Dedicate a few precious minutes each evening to reevaluate whether your conduct aligns with the aspirational role model dwelling within your vision:

  • What can I improve to be a better person tomorrow?

  • What qualities of my role model did I reflect today?

  • Considering the situations I encountered today, have I responded the way my role model would've responded?


Step Two: Review Your Day and Plan for Tomorrow

Examine your daily ups and downs by asking yourself questions such as:

  • Have I remained true to my core values in various situations?

  • Have my actions reflected the envisioned role model within me?

  • What positive contributions have I made?

  • Have I managed my time effectively?

  • How did I respond to moments of stress or adversity?

  • What could I have done better?

  • What did I accomplish today?

  • What new knowledge or skill have I acquired?

  • Have I allowed myself to procrastinate?

  • Has my mental power been used productively?

The practice of self-inquiry serves as a revealing mirror that can expose any lurking self-destructive habits, offering the opportunity to acknowledge, understand, and ultimately transcend them, thus paving the way for the deliberate cultivation of habits that align with your envisioned supreme self.

After meticulous evaluation, jot down a plan for the day ahead. This proactive approach cultivates clarity of thought and a sense of purpose, setting a dynamic tone. Rise rejuvenated and step back into the role of the doer. By following the outlined tasks, regardless of their simplicity, we also exercise self-discipline—the bedrock of success.

I use mornings for self-consolidation through affirmations and prayers, potent tools for mental and spiritual preparation for the day ahead. This intentional alignment of mind and spirit not only fortifies me for the challenges but also transcends the limitations of my flesh and acts as a compass, guiding my actions with clarity derived from a deeper understanding, thus allowing me to navigate through the battlefield with resilience and grace that surpass human understanding.

Incorporating moving speeches or sermons into the arsenal is a wise strategy. In the face of adversity, it's a profound discipline to redirect attention from the immediate, often deceiving, appearances to the unseen promises that faith and endurance hold. Rely not on your lying eyes!


Step Three: Mind Control Through the Art of Visualization

The subconscious operates based on feelings and thoughts we graft during the waking hours. It is, therefore, unwise to retire for the night with a sense of despair, lack, brokenheartedness, etcetera. I challenge you to lay the foundations for success and prosperity by developing a habit of self-brainwashing and visualizing to generate a harmonious and constructive mindset (attitude), thus fueling the inner man with ingredients vital for positive transformation. This deliberate act becomes a self-perpetuating cycle, shaping the mind and influencing the energies you carry into the new day. By that, I'm not exhorting dismissal, neglectfulness, or succumbing to hurdles. Instead, I'm advocating facing them while preserving spiritual and mental tranquility. Have anxiety and fear ever solved any problem?

Fortify your mind by handcuffing every thought and discarding all negatives. Safeguard the precious mental terrain from the erosion of detrimental influences, for they are psychic entities. Shift the focus and divert all attention and energy to the attainment of the desired good. Consciously steer mental power away from sources of dissipation, thus harnessing the full force of your mental prowess in the pursuit of your goals.

The art of controlled, channeled, and targeted visualization is a skill to be developed. An average person falls victim to the misusage of this innate gift through reckless and unconscious application, leading to outcomes that do not align with the results hoped for. In the initial stages, complete control over the flow of thoughts and visions or the ability to perform miraculous feats through visualization might elude you, but persistence is mandatory. As Rev. Ike emphasized, the practice of visualization is to be approached with effortless effort, akin to breathing. Visions incorporate tools for their materialization. Stress is counterproductive. For beginners, the focus should be on minimizing the energy directed toward ideas, thoughts, feelings, and visions that do not align with the established goal. The power and potential of focus are wasted through double-mindedness (desiring and praying for one thing but focusing on something else).

A technique I use to moderate the subconscious narrative during the night is simple. Infuse affirmations such as I am love, I am beauty, I am wisdom, I am wealth, I am blessed, I am supernatural, I am miraculous, and I am divinely guided. Overwhelm the subconscious through repetition. Go back to affirming the desired good if you wake up stressed in the middle of the night. This practice will rewire your brain and reroute the course of your thoughts and focus.

Once these habits are grafted into your heart, you'll transmute into an admirable person—the kind of person our world desperately and urgently needs at this hour. I sincerely hope you'll find these guidelines beneficial.
