La pareja respiró aliviada porque significaba el comienzo de su periplo por tierra, a la que ya extrañaban porque los seres humanos están hechos para mantener los pies sobre esta y no para pasar mareos en embarcaciones.
The ship wobbled almost imperceptibly when it touched the dock, in the docking operation after sailing for several days on a cruise through the waters of the Florida peninsula, in the United States. Si, cerca de los Everglades, pero no dentro de los linderos del pantanal, sino en una reserva diseñada especialmente y que era la atracción de moda. La pareja no había oído hablar de ella, sin embargo ¿que más daba? Estaban allí para pasarla bien y cualquier cosa programada por el agente, debía ser buena.
Once registered at the destination hotel, the travel agent had scheduled them to visit a new park. Yes, near the everglades, but not within the boundaries of the marshland, but in a specially designed reserve that was the hottest attraction. The couple hadn't heard of it, but what difference does it make? They were there to have a good time, and whatever the agent scheduled, it had to be good.

Las gotas de rocío al aire les bañaban el rostro y el olor del agua arremolinada evocaba una tenue fragancia a humedad salvaje, aquella que solo ha podido percibir quienes han viajado por aguas turbulentas. De repente, se sintió un fuerte golpe bajo la barcaza y esta salió volando por los aires.
They sailed slowly at first but then the river current started to increase and with it the speed of the barge. The dew drops in the air washed over their faces and the smell of the swirling water evoked a faint fragrance of wild moisture, one that only those who had travelled through troubled waters could smell. Suddenly, a strong blow was felt under the barge and it flew away.

They both swam to the shore as best they could, but they realized: the other people swam to the other shore. The thunder of the water meant that the cries for communication could not be heard and trying to swim across the current would have been suicidal. Grateful that they were wearing vests, the couple set off on a walk to get out of the reserve.
La tarde avanzaba implacablemente ¿Qué les había golpeado bajo la barcaza, para terminar en la situación en la que se encontraban? Caminaron entre una vegetación profusa por varios minutos, de pronto se detuvieron y oyeron un enorme y escalofriante gruñido. Escondido en la maleza, inesperadamente, saltó la razón de aquel tétrico sonido. Nunca más se supo nada de aquella pareja.
The afternoon was advancing relentlessly. What had hit them under the barge, to end up in the situation they were in? They walked through profuse vegetation for several minutes, then suddenly stopped and heard a chilling growl. Hiding in the undergrowth, suddenly the reason for the sound jumped out. Nothing was ever heard of the couple again.
