White, yellow, red, purple, are some of the colors that most of us are unaware of carrots, and the fact is that the orange color that we normally find in the markets is the result of crossings and selection of varieties by the Dutch.
History tells that this color was selected in honor of William of Orange, who was considered a national hero after achieving victory against the Spanish occupation of Holland at the end of the 16th century. Reason for which they wanted to honor giving an orange color to the largest number of products. And since Holland was an agricultural potential at that time, they began to cultivate the orange variety, which became established over the years as the favorite, in addition to being in demand due to the culinary preferences of the moment.
However, it is worth mentioning that there are still areas that continue to produce carrots of different colors, each one having different flavors and benefits, due to the difference in pigments.
