A month ago we installed our cucumber seedlings. Today, these plants are already installed in the field ready to continue growing. This crop, like the tomato, needs guidance to grow vertically, which will facilitate the exposure of its leaves to the sun, pruning and harvesting. At the same time that it will occupy less space in the field, thus increasing the planting density in the same area, this means that there will be more plants in less space.
If it were allowed to grow at ground level, the crop would be prone to being in contact with more pests and diseases and pruning and harvesting work would be complicated, also complicating transit in the field.
Today our friends Milagros and Fiorela were in charge of doing the tutoring, for which they leaned on these long sticks.
Hace un mes instalamos nuestros almácigos de pepino. Hoy, estas plantitas, ya se encuentran instaladas en campo listas para seguir creciendo. Este cultivo, al igual que el tomate, necesita de un guiado para que crezca de manera vertical, lo cual va a facilitar la exposición de sus hojas al sol, poda y cosecha. Al mismo tiempo que va ocupar menos espacio en campo, aumentando así la densidad de siembra en una misma área, esto quiere decir que habrá más plantas en menos espacio.
Si se dejara crecer a nivel del suelo, el cultivo sería propenso a estar en contacto con más plagas y enfermedades y se complicarían las labores de poda, cosecha,complicando de igual forma al tránsito en campo.
Hoy nuestras amigas Milagros y Fiorela se encargaron de hacer el tutorado, para lo cual se apoyaron de estas varas largas.
