My wife and I ran. Little was left to save. The most important was already with us, our children. Now we had to find a future for them because the one that we had lasted years building was gone.
While we were fleeing in our car along a small path in the forest, we could hear in the distance the voices of suffering, despair of many people who probably would have closed their eyes forever.
We didn't know exactly what we were running from, but what we had seen was the damage this can cause. It is something supernatural, with a strength and understanding of the universe much greater than that known to any human. Every start that night, where all the town's alarms went off, there was no doubt we were in an emergency of the highest level and most of the defense barriers had already been knocked down. We were we are.
As much as we ran that night. Everywhere we went we met with disasters, deaths and great destruction, until the sun began to rise and we realized that its only blind spot was perhaps the forest.
We hope to travel a large part of this dirt road inside the forest and that will probably lead us to some distant town. But I know that we are facing something unstoppable, deep inside me I know that in the end it will be a matter of time before they find us.
Excellent and short fiction story. But I felt there was big meaning behind your writing. Lot of destruction came via humans bad activities. But bad things did only few peoples. Unfortunate thing is result available for whole community. I think you try to mean like my idea. If I''m wrong please correct me.
The idea is to leave an ending that can be interpreted in many ways so that the most imaginators can create its continuation. I love it like that. And the story is about a kind of macroscopic plague that was born from the planet itself in its beginnings as one of the possible defense systems, the purpose of which is to create a restart.
