I too was contacted by her (or him) in the past. As I have been working in Information Security for many years, it is my natural reaction to distrust things. I've read too much about scams and seen many of them as well.
It is not always pleasant to be suspicious because the real people in need of help suffer from this, which is actually quite sad. I seldom donate money to people or projects that I'm not close to 100% sure they are legit.
You did a good and thorough research. My compliments. As scammers use AI nowadays, you can also use it to expose them.
I hadn't seen the hospital bills before, but the first thing that I noticed when I saw it in your post was the Gmail address. That was quite a red flag for me.
Again, it is sad that these scammers ruin it for the people that really are in need 😢
The paper looked legit, and I didn't look any deeper…I mean, I don't know how the medical reports from other countries look, that's why I didn't think twice 🤔 my fault, but I know now for the next time how to do research… like you said, why not use AI for those kinds of things if we have this possibility now 😏😌
Most people are by default trusting. It's my professional deformation that makes me extra alert on scams.
And one default trick scammer do is playing on someone's emotions. And when I see the number of donations that have been done, it also worked this time... sadly.
I don't even want to know how much money she took from people…but yeah…she succeeded
