Maestro José Elías “Chelías” Villarroel y mi persona Gerónima Muñoz

El Punto del Navegante, se ejecuta en el Estado Nueva Esparta y en el oriente venezolano, es el canto del marinero por excelencia, caracterizado como canto de trabajo, sin acompañamiento, hace a capela, el pescador cuando está solo en el mar en busca del sustento, canta y se distrae por la noche al mando del timón. Se acompaña durante la faena con el canto cadencioso, entonando décimas octosilábicas para sacar del pensamiento el sueño, el miedo, la tristeza o el pesar...
En esta oportunidad les traigo un Punto del Navegante del Edo. Nueva Esparta, musicalizado por el Decano de la Música Maestro José Elías “Chelías” Villarroel, escrito en forma de décimas la compuso en honor a la Bahía de Juan Griego, donde vive actualmente. El Maestro Chelías, nace el el año 1924 y fue nombrado Patrimonio Cultural Viviente del Estado Nueva Esparta. En el año 2008 pude visitarlo y conversar con él, mencionó que canta desde los trece años de edad, inspirándose en sus vivencias personales de las tradiciones de la isla de Margarita pero que actualmente, era cristiano, uno de sus cantos más hermosos que nos regala es el punto antes mencionado.
En una oportunidad por el año 1970, mi Padre Pedro Muñoz Farías, poeta y galeronista, en vida compartió con el Maestro Chelías, quien le dijo obsequió sus décimas y le pidió que cantara el Punto del Navegante, así mi Padre lo recibe y lo aprende, luego por los años 1990 antes de partir al cielo, me lo enseñó y desde entonces lo canto y lo disfruto.
Cabe destacar, que estos puntos fueron proyectados por otros grupos musicales y cultores como José Agrega, Mestro Alberto "Beto" Valderrama Patiño en la bandola acompañando a una de las mejores voces de la Isla de Margarita como es Lucienee Sanabria, Ernesto Da´Silva , Luis Argenis Zabala, entre otros que difunden este género acompañados por instrumentos como el bandolín, Bandola oriental, cuatro venezolano y guitarra.
En la presente muestra me acompaña la Maestra Milagros Figuera en el bandolín o mandolina como le llaman en oriente. Aparte, la foto que comparto, la tomé en el año 2008 cuando fui a la casa del Maestro José Elías “Chelías” Villarroel en Juan Griego, Edo. Nueva Esparta.

The Punto del Navegante, performed in the State of Nueva Esparta and in eastern Venezuela, is the song of the sailor par excellence, characterized as a work song, unaccompanied, made a cappella, the fisherman when he is alone at sea in search of sustenance, sings and is distracted at night at the helm of the rudder. He accompanies himself during the work with the cadenced song, intoning octosyllabic tenths to get out of his thoughts the dream, the fear, the sadness or the sorrow?
In this opportunity I bring you a "Punto del Navegante del Edo. Nueva Esparta", musicalized by the Dean of Music Maestro José Elías "Chelías" Villarroel, written in the form of tenths composed in honor of the Bay of Juan Griego, where he currently lives. Maestro Chelías was born in 1924 and was named Living Cultural Heritage of the State of Nueva Esparta. In 2008 I was able to visit him and talk to him, he mentioned that he has been singing since he was thirteen years old, inspired by his personal experiences of the traditions of the island of Margarita, but currently, he was a Christian, one of his most beautiful songs that he gives us is the aforementioned point.
On one occasion in 1970, my father Pedro Muñoz Farias, poet and galeronista, in life shared with Master Chelias, who said he gave him his tenths and asked him to sing the Point of the Navigator, so my father receives and learns it, then by the 1990s before leaving for heaven, he taught it to me and since then I sing it and enjoy it.
It should be noted that these points were projected by other musical groups and cultors such as José Agrega, Mestro Alberto "Beto" Valderrama Patiño on the bandola accompanying one of the best voices of Margarita Island as Lucienee Sanabria, Ernesto Da'Silva, Luis Argenis Zabala, among others who spread this genre accompanied by instruments such as the bandolin, Bandola oriental, Venezuelan cuatro and guitar.
In the present sample I am accompanied by Maestro Milagros Figuera on the bandolin or mandolin as they call it in the east. Besides, the photo I am sharing was taken in 2008 when I went to the house of Maestro José Elías "Chelías" Villarroel in Juan Griego, Nueva Esparta State.
