Today is celebrated in my hometown "La parranda de San Pedro" this festival that is practiced in the towns of Guatire - Guarenas (Venezuela) on June 29 of each year, was declared intangible heritage of humanity by UNESCO in 2011
The party begins, both in Guarenas and Guatire, on the night of June 28, the eve of Saint Peter's Day, with a serenade that is sung and danced at the door of the local temple; then, the same is done in the houses visited. On the way, the party spins couplets alluding to friends and acquaintances, concluding the songs and dances from eleven to twelve at night on this day.
Men, women and children take to the streets of the mentioned towns to laugh, sing and celebrate together with the dancing characters and the singers of the musical ensemble
The veneration of Saint Peter the Apostle of Guarenas and Guatire, arises in the early nineteenth century, after a miracle granted to a black slave
The story tells that the slave Maria Ignacia Hallo her sick little daughter, and after several failed attempts to restore the health of her daughter, she resorted to the divine possibility of a miracle, giving her daughter to the Saint, in exchange for celebrating it in the manner more authentic than it had: 'dancing and singing'.
