¡Saludos! esta cuarentena me ha hecho retomar algunos proyectos que había dejado en suspenso por razones de tiempo, uno de ellos era la restauración de una matriz para xilografía que había hecho hace 4 años en el taller de técnicas de expresión en el decanato de arte donde estudié.
Gretings! This quarantine has made me go back to some projects that I had suspended for reasons of time, one of them was the restoration of a woodcut matrix that I had done 4 years ago in the expression techniques workshop at the art deanery where I studied.
La xilografía, es una técnica artística también considerada una técnica grafica, la cual consiste en el estampado de una imagen sobre una superficie, por medio de una matriz hecha de madera a la cual se le agrega algún pigmento, esta es una técnica muy antigua y grandes artistas como Durero y Goya la practicaron, para la creación de la matriz se hace un tallado a ahuecado de la madera con la forma o figura , ésta bien puede ser de forma positiva, es decir quedando en relieve la figura o negativa, donde la figura la forma la depresión o hueco formado en la madera, tal como los sellos. La técnica es similar al grabado o el agua fuerte, pero en ellas en lugar de madera se usa un metal y la creación de relieve se logra por medio de un proceso químico.
Woodcut is an artistic technique also considered a graphic technique, which consists of stamping an image on a surface, by means of a matrix made of wood to which some pigment is added, this is a very old technique and great artists such as Dürer and Goya practiced it, for the creation of the matrix a hollowed-out carving of the wood is made with the shape or figure, this may well be in a positive way, that is, the figure is left in relief or negative, where the figure the depression or hole formed in the wood, such as stamps. The technique is similar to etching or strong water, but instead of wood a metal is used and relief creation is accomplished through a chemical process.
La xilografía permite el estampado en serie, pero una serie limitada, donde se puede decir que cada una es original, esto mismo ocurre con las estampas serigrafías y aguas fuertes de autores. Estas poseen un tipo de nomenclatura especifica, la forma de hacerlo es escribiendo el numero del ejemplar seguido por el número de ejemplares de la serie, mas la firma del autor de la siguiente forma: 1/8 Titulo (opcional) Firma del autor; esto hace que las xilografías o grabados en agua fuerte de los artistas famosos, sean más cotizados los primeros de la serie.
Woodcut allows serial printing, but a limited series, where it can be said that each one is original, the same occurs with the serigraphs and strong water prints of authors. These have a specific type of nomenclature, the way to do it is by writing the number of the copy followed by the number of copies in the series, plus the author's signature as follows: 1/8 Title (optional) Signature of the author; This makes the first series woodcuts or etchings of famous artists the most popular.
El proceso de creación de la matriz, comienza por el traspaso de un dibujo o boceto a la superficie, el relieve se logra por medio de instrumentos filosos llamados gubias, esta es la técnica más tradicional, sin embargo algunas personas usan un dremel o fresadora eléctrica. La madera que utilicé fue ceiba roja, debido a que es una madera blanda y que a su vez tiene las venas rectas.
The process of creating the matrix, begins with the transfer of a drawing or sketch to the surface, the shape is achieved by means of sharp instruments called gouges, this is the most traditional technique, however some people use a dremel or electric milling machine . The wood I used was ceiba red, because it is a soft wood and in turn has straight veins.

La matriz mide 20x20cm y la estampas fueron realizadas en cartulina guarro para acuarela, siendo diez (10) en total.
The matrix measures 20x20cm and the prints were made on watercolor cardboard, being ten (10) in total.

En mi caso para la práctica de xilografía, el ejemplar que fue a exposición fue una P.A. es decir una prueba de artista, en la cual intervine el ejemplar 8/10 con lápiz de color. Su forma tiene que ver con la temática El Diablo tiene forma de mujer, la cual desarrollé como parte de la dinámica de la materia la cual consistió en manejar un tema inspirado en una obra escrita por nosotros.
In my case for woodcut practice, the print that went to the exhibition was an artist's test, is which copy 8/10 with colored pencil intervened. Its shape has to do with the theme The Devil has the shape of a woman, which I developed as part of the dynamics of the subject which consisted of handling a theme inspired by a work written by us.

Para el entintado de la matriz utilicé oleo de color rojo, este material debía extenderse por la madera con ayuda de un rodillo de goma. Una vez realizada las estampas necesarias la matriz quedó completamente cubierta de oleo por lo cual me prometí restaurarla apenas tuviera la oportunidad.
For the inking of the matrix I used red oil paint, this material had to be spread over the wood with the help of a rubber roller. Once the necessary prints were made, the matrix was completely covered in oil, so I promised to restore it as soon as I had the chance.

Por motivo de la cuarentena, al fin dispuse del tiempo necesario para la restauración de la matriz que había estado pintada desde el año 2016. Tal como si de hacerla de nuevo se tratase, extraje el oleo que se encontraba en las áreas ahuecadas de la matriz, para dejar el relieve la forma, así mismo traté de hacerlo de forma recta siguiendo el patrón de líneas, hay personas que realizaron su xilografía de forma más profunda, pero en mi caso me gusta la textura generada por la gubia fina, por lo cual no es un relieve muy profundo.
Due to the quarantine, I finally had the necessary time for the restoration of the matrix that had been painted since 2016. As if it were a matter of doing it again, I extracted the oil that was in the hollowed-out areas of the matrix To make the shape stand out, I also tried to do it straight following the pattern of lines, there are people who made their woodcut more deeply, but in my case I like the texture generated by the fine gouge, which is why it is not a very deep relief.

El resultado de la restauración, dejó la matriz lista para un nuevo estampado, sin embargo en mi caso prefiero conservarla tal como está, por lo que la matriz ahora cobra el carácter de obra escultórica.
The result of the restoration, left the matrix ready for a new stamping, however in my case I prefer to keep it as it is, so the matrix now takes on the character of a sculptural work.
