Joining a trashion show was something I never imagined I would experience as a girl who doesn't really have that confidence, but this year, I was given the chance to represent the BS Communication department. The event was not just about fashion, but about creativity, confidence, and the importance of recycling. It was a challenge for me since I have never been part of a pageant before, but it turned out to be one of the most memorable moments of my college life.
Our gowns were not ordinary gowns. They were all made out of recycled materials. For my outfit, my team designed a gown using sack, tela, cartons, and paper. To make it more artistic, my headpiece was made of sticks and straws. At first, I couldn’t imagine how these simple, everyday materials would look when turned into a gown, who would know how waste materials when reused can turn to something beautiful. My partner’s outfit was also made of the same materials, and both of us had matching colors of red and black. When we stand side by side, it really looked good.
When the event started, I was feeling really nervous lol, this is my first time to join event like. My hands were cold, my heart was beating fast, and I kept telling myself not to trip or make a mistake on stage. I looked at the other contestants, and they all seemed so confident and graceful. That made me even more nervous, but at the same time, it pushed me to give my best.
When it was finally our turn to walk, I took a deep breath and stepped on stage with my partner. The bright lights, the loud cheers, and the music made me even more nervous, but slowly, I learned to enjoy the moment. I smiled, posed, and tried to show confidence, even though deep inside I was shaking. Every step felt like a accomplishment for me.
What made the experience even more unforgettable was the support I felt from my classmates and friends. I could hear them cheering loudly for me, shouting my name, and clapping as I walked. It was in that moment that my nervousness turned into happiness. I realized that this show was not about being perfect, but about showing courage and celebrating creativity.
I honestly did not expect to win anything since it was my first time and I was still unsure if I did well. But when they announced that I won the People’s Choice Award, I was shocked and overjoyed. It meant so much to me because it came from the support of the people. All the nervousness and stress I felt earlier were replaced by pride and happiness.
Winning that award made me realize that stepping out of my comfort zone was worth it. I learned that sometimes we just need to take the risk and try something new, even if we feel scared or unsure. It taught me that courage is not the absence of fear, but the decision to go on despite it.
The trashion show was more than just a competition for me. It was an experience about the importance of recycling and creativity. It also became a personal achievement, because I faced one of my biggest fears going on stage and I succeeded. I am grateful to my department, my classmates, and everyone who supported me. Without them, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to step on that stage.
In the end, the trashion show was not just about fashion, but about confidence, teamwork, and learning to embrace challenges.
