David looked for Julian to go to the company where they worked. They both had night shifts at the agribusiness company. They had a nice chat inside the vehicle, about what they would do if the rumors were real. The company was having problems with insolvency and in the next few weeks they could close it down. The co-workers discussed the offers they received from other companies and the possibility of investing in their own business.

The conversation was interrupted when David slammed on the brakes. They watched in amazement as a Toyota Machito lost control, spun around in the air and crashed into a lot of land surrounded by houses. They parked the vehicle, turned on the flashing lights and got out immediately.

They were approaching the scene of the accident when they felt a blow. David fell to the ground. It was the push of a man wearing only shorts. Julian helped him up and they saw people coming out of the houses around him. They were running desperately to the truck. They thought it was to provide help, but on the contrary, it was with the intention of stealing.

Powerless and unable to do anything to stop the piranhas of society, they searched the back of the vehicle, pulling out bags, tools, boxes, everything they could find. Meanwhile, the driver was inside the vehicle, badly injured and two bodies that were thrown out of the truck, were a few meters away, still breathing. They got close enough to notice that one of them was trying to gesture for help.

Everything looked like pandemonium, children helping their parents to loot and plunder. Others were filming with their mobiles and even a couple were making a selfie, smiling, with the smashed vehicle in the background. Julián tried to communicate with the firemen or any public body that could help. At that moment he saw the lights of the police. Two patrol cars parked violently. Law enforcement officers came down shouting insults to keep out the human crows. David felt a sense of relief, at last there would be order and help for those injured in the accident.

His relief quickly turned to disappointment. The security guards, checking the pockets of the bodies lying in the camp, rummaged through the pants for money. They also looked through necks and arms, hoping to find chains, watches, some valuable jewelry. The guardians of society, acting like scavengers, sifted through the leftovers.

David demanded that they help these people. They were bleeding to death. They responded with a threat, if he continued to scream, he would spend the night in a cell. Within half an hour the firemen arrived, they had to get the driver out, who was trapped in the iron dough. But first, they met with the police, claiming some of the loot. It was the unspoken agreement between them. When the ambulances arrived, the bodies had stopped breathing.

Baffled, they returned to the car. Julian asked him for the keys. He would drive to the factory. Both were silent, they couldn't believe how those human beings could act with that degree of savagery. David, engrossed in his thoughts, made the decision as to what he would do when the company closed. He would fix all his papers, those of his wife and children. He could no longer stay in that country. He would not allow his children to grow up on that lawless piece of land. Full of people who lost their empathy and goodness long ago. A society that was devouring itself.
