It depends, I've formed the best relationships of my life here and I mostly hang out with these people on the low. Maybe it doesn't have to be a Nigerian thing, but people who understands themselves on a deeper plane. It's true that most relationships here are to the money end. We have to also remember that asides that there are psychological aspects to forming relationships as well. People sometimes don't mix due to so much, and when money becomes the bond, then that bond is loose. Let's not make money the reason for every meeting or hangout whatsoever, then you'll see people who are ready to be friends. Many don't want to be friends beyond what they'll benefit and I've witnessed this a lot. Just ride it out.

My heart is drawn to people in my sphere mainly because I understand their reality and how much this can change their lives. So it's sort of a personal project. Most of my core friends and colleagues here aren't even Nigerians.
True that. And to add: relationships vary on different level, emotional, financial, etc. We certainly cannot connect with everyone on the same level.
Well, thanks for that detailed one, we would do our best and leave the rest. This issue is dicey and taps into so many fabrics. Hopefully it gets better.
It's the same in real life too. People just look at what they can benefit from one another and move the other way when they think the friendship doesn't profit them. While that is a good thing, it takes away genuine relationships where you just love people for who they are.
Shouldn't have to be this way actually monetary value isn't the only value we should attach to people. Basically there are Incentives to loving people, but it goes beyond materialism because it should be a marathon, not a race.
