Era martes de Carnaval en Venezuela, martes 25 de febrero de 2020. Desperté temprano ese día, coloque la alarma del teléfono a las 5:45am pero me levante fue a las 6:00am. Me di un baño rápido, lave los dientes y me vestí con la ropa que había preparado la noche anterior. Short y franela negra, botas de montaña ya gastadas y un bolso, con agua y comida.
It was Carnival Tuesday in Venezuela, Tuesday February 25, 2020. I woke up early that day, set the phone alarm at 5:45 am but I woke up at 6:00 am. I took a quick bath, brushed my teeth, and dressed in the clothes I'd prepared the night before. Short and black flannel, already worn hiking boots and a bag, with food and water.
Salí de casa a las 6:30am vivo en la parroquia sucre del municipio Libertador de Caracas, una zona popular conocida como Catia, que está al otro lado de la ciudad a donde me dirigía. Llegue a la estación de metro y fui desde la estación gato negro a la estación la california.
I left home at 6:30 am I live in the Sucre parish of the Libertador municipality of Caracas, a popular area known as Catia, which is on the other side of the city where I was going. I got to the subway station and went from the black cat station to the la california station.
Salí del metro y comencé a caminar en dirección norte hacía el acceso a la montaña, en este caso la montaña principal y más conocida de Caracas, el Ávila o parque nacional Waraira Repano. En esta ocasión fui hasta el acceso que da paso a la estación de guarparques “La Julia”.
I got out of the subway and started walking north towards the access to the mountain, in this case the main and best-known mountain in Caracas, the Ávila or Waraira Repano National Park. This time I went to the access that leads to the "La Julia" ranger station.
Llegue al puesto de guarparques a las 8:20am, bebí agua, di los buenos días y firme el libro de entrada al Avíla, escribiendo mis datos, y el lugar de destino, en este caso “los platos o del diablo” o un mirador cercano pues mi intención era ver el mar. Porque la cara norte de la montaña te permite ver parte del mar caribe que cubre las costas del país. Y quería almorzar viéndolo.
I arrived at the ranger station at 8:20 am, drank water, said good morning and signed the entry book to Avíla, writing my details, and the destination, in this case "the dishes or the devil" or a viewpoint close because my intention was to see the sea. Because the north face of the mountain allows you to see part of the Caribbean Sea that covers the country's coasts. And I wanted to have lunch watching it.
Comencé el ascenso subiendo desdé "la julía", al “tanque” (un tanque que surte de agua limpia de la montaña), allí bebí agua de nuevo y me encontré a este personaje dando vueltas en el camino.
I started the climb going up from "la julía", to the "tank" (a tank that supplies clean water from the mountain), there I drank water again and I found this character circling on the road.

Subí de “el tanque” al “mirador del edén”. Y de allí desde el edén tome la ruta de “dos banderas” una fila rápida pero cuesta arriba, que da hasta el comienzo de las toyotas. Una ruta en ascenso hasta el “pico goering”.
I went from "the tank" to the "viewpoint of Eden". And from there, from Eden, take the “two flags” route, a fast but uphill row, which leads to the start of the toyotas. A route up to the "goering peak".
Allí me encontré con dos personas que venían de regreso de acampar en “Pico Naiguata” el cual es el pico más alto de esta montaña.
There I met two people who came back from camping at "Pico Naiguata" which is the highest peak of this mountain.
Desde "Pico Goering" subí hasta “El Urquijo” desde el urquijo hasta el cruce, en algún momento en el cruce o encrucijada, debes decidir el destino, en sentido oeste te diriges a “pico occidental” y en sentido este hacia “Pico Naiguata”. Tomé la ruta este, porque el mirador donde quería ver el mar estaba en ese sentido.
From "Pico Goering" I went up to "El Urquijo" from the urquijo to the crossroads, at some point at the crossroads or crossroads, you must decide the destination, in the west direction you go to "Pico occidental" and in the east direction to "Pico Naiguata " I took the east route, because the viewpoint where I wanted to see the sea was in that sense.

Pero desde el cruce ya puedes ver el mar y pues resulta que todo estaba nublado, camine hasta mi destino, un mirador que es una gran roca con texturas lisas y formas diversas. Llegue hasta allí, tome agua, me sente y quite las botas de montaña, descanse, almorcé, y no pude ver el mar, siempre estuve en el medio de nubes, rodeado de blancos y grices, sobre una piedra cubierta de plantas, respirando aire puro, celebrando la vida, cansado del camino, pero feliz del resultado. Satisfecho.
But from the intersection you can already see the sea and as it turns out that everything was cloudy, walk to my destination, a viewpoint that is a large rock with smooth textures and various shapes. I got there, drink water, sit and take off my hiking boots, rest, I had lunch, and I couldn't see the sea, I was always in the middle of clouds, surrounded by white and gray, on a stone covered with plants, breathing air pure, celebrating life, tired of the road, but happy with the result. Satisfied.
Llegue a las 11:30am a mi destino y descanse en el hasta las 1:00am cuando comencé el descenso, recorrí la misma ruta de regreso, solo que esta vez para llegar al “mirador del edén” no baje por “dos banderas” sino por el lado de “rancho grande” que es más suave para las rodillas y los pies, ya que no es tan inclinada como “dos banderas” sino más suave, es un camino con una vegetación increíble, tiene partes secas y aridas, y otras húmedas y verde por todos lados. Desde allí llegue a “mirador del edén” y de nuevo al “tanque” y luego a “La Julia” para caminar y llegar al metro de nuevo y de regreso a casa.
Arrive at 11:30 am at my destination and rest in it until 13:00 pm when I started the descent, I traveled the same route back, only this time to get to the "viewpoint of Eden" do not go down "two flags" but on the "large ranch" side, which is softer for the knees and feet, since it is not as steep as "two flags" but smoother, it is a path with incredible vegetation, it has dry and arid parts, and others wet and green everywhere. From there I reached the "viewpoint of Eden" and again to the "tank" and then to "La Julia" to walk and get to the subway again and back home.

El regreso siempre es más pesado porque solo quieres estar en casa, darte un baño y descansar, y cuando lo haces y recuerdas las montañas, sonríes, te alegras, estas feliz, porque la montaña es un espacio de calma y placer, que te ayuda a pensar y meditar, que te muestra fuerzas que algunas veces la ciudad te impide ver.
The return is always heavier because you just want to be at home, take a bath and rest, and when you do and remember the mountains, you smile, you are happy, you are happy, because the mountain is a place of calm and pleasure, which helps you to think and meditate, which shows you forces that sometimes the city prevents you from seeing.
Todo esto fue antes de que comenzara la cuarentena por covid19 en Venezuela. y recuerdo esa montaña con ganas de volver.
All of this was before the covid19 quarantine began in Venezuela. and I remember that mountain wanting to return.
