This blog post is my response to @theycallmedan's "What does HIVE mean to me" initiative.
It all happened so fast but it was so painful at the same time. Seeing our mother blockchain (STEEM) getting hammered and destroyed by Justin Sun in less than a month was one of the shittiest things I have ever witnessed. A month might not sound like a long time for people who have never used STEEM and are reading this blog but trust me it felt like ages. There was a "digital war" going on on both Twitter and Steem full of fake promises by Justin's side and full of emotionally charged messages from our side (Steemians)wanting our "home" back.
Just when I started thinking about what would happen if we loose this "war" HIVE Blockchain appeared. Since Justin Sun centralized STEEM Blockchain, the so called "home of free speech" and started censoring posts and everything that wasn't bringing him money most people I know started migrating to HIVE.
HIVE is Steem but decentralized. There is no longer a ninja-mined stake (the one Justin Sun used to take over STEEM) nor a Steemit inc. It is a decentralized blockchain exactly like STEEM but it's governed by it's users.
For the average folk that's reading this imagine this.
It's like creating an identical Facebook but without Mark Zuckerberg and the Facebook team controlling it and the people in charge of the platform would be the users themselves. Sound really awesome right? Well, that's what happened and that's how HIVE was born.
The first words that come to my mind when I think about what does HIVE mean to me is A New Beginning but this time with a ton of experience and connections. A lot of projects are migrating from STEEM to HIVE and most of them are re-branding (changing names, rules, UI etc.). That's what is gonna happen with the project I've been working on non-stop on for the past 1 and a half year. The project is called @steemskate and it is the first and only #skateboarding community built upon STEEM. This time is different though. We are not building something from scratch. We already have daily users, we have a ton of experience running @steemskate for over 1 year and people already know about us. That makes it easier but at the same time challenging. It is up to us now to promote the hell out of our new re-branded community and this time we KNOWHOW to do things (hehehe).
I want to see our new skateboarding community reaching more people.
I want to see our new skateboarding community attracting more attention.
I want our new skateboarding community to be able to support skaters worldwide.
I want to see our new skateboarding community THRIVE
Hive for me is a place where I can start rebuilding my dreams in a decentralized way. A place where I will be spending most of my time and connecting with people who really love freedom and are passionate about life. A place where I can invite people who are censored for speaking out their opinion. A place I can finally call HOME.
Thank you all for reading my blog. I wanted to get this thoughts out of my head for some time now and this initiative was the perfect reason to do so.
