The beginning of my hive journey

in GEMS5 years ago (edited)

Greetings to the entire hive and social media community!

My name is kunle olajide. I am a Nigerian, a father, a teacher, and most importantly, an artist. I got introduced to the hive blockchain by an acquaintance that is fast turning into a friend, @gentleshaid.

I am a graduate of fine and applied art. I specialize in embroidery tapestry thread works on canvas, sculpture, painting, and textiles. I have been into tapestry for more than 23 years.

Apart from illustrative works, I also teach art in primary school and colleges. It gives me an unmatchable pleasure to teach talented children and beginners adults to build their interests or talents in art.

I have done several art exhibitions to make sales of my works by individual buyers and companies. The first product of my tapestry technique was bought instantly and gradually, buyers and collectors started to build up.

The success of the technique encouraged Kunle to work mainly in the tapestry medium, and in various sizes and dimensions. It has taken me to places. Kunle draws his inspiration from nature, his environment, folklore, and traditional beliefs and practices.

My major forms are derived from animals and architectural motifs. I have exhibited widely in Nigeria and West Africa. My works are in the collection of organizations such as the United Bank for Africa, Union Bank of Nigeria, and the Institute of Financial Planning.

Among the notable private collectors of my artworks are A.G Leventis, Prof. Wole Soyinka, Genevive Nnaji, Davido, and Kunle Filani, just to mention a few.

What does Tapestry art entails?

In order to give a clear explanation of how tapestry art works. I will use one of my illustrations:

Stage 1: Sketching of the concept and tracing of the sketch using a black thread

Stage 2: Finishing off the tracing using a black thread

Stage 3: Step by step fixing of colours

Framing and the the final work

The interpretation of this particular work is about a hunter that killed an antelope to appeal to his wife who was in a bad mood in the village surrounded by hut houses. The hunter was assisted by his dog. The impression it creates is that husbands need to sometimes get gifts for their wives in order to continually make them happy.

I hope to have a lovely time blogging about my artworks in this community.

Thank you all!
