Greetings guys and welcome to this post. One of my favorite characters in the Hercules movie, has always been Hades, and despite being the villain of the movie, his eccentric and charismatic personality makes him unique and different from others, turning out to be really funny. For this delivery I will show you the design of Hades in my style, explaining in the best way each step I followed to get the final result. Without further ado, let's get started.

Uno de mis personajes favoritos de la entrega de Hércules, siempre ha sido Hades, y si a pesar de ser el villano de la película, su excéntrica y carismática personalidad lo hace único y diferentes a otros, resultando ser realmente divertido. Para esta entrega les mostrare el diseño de Hades a mi estilo, explicando de la mejor manera cada paso que seguí para obtener el resultado final. Sin más que decir empecemos.
Process / Proceso
Sketch / Boceto
I start by making the guide lines, something quick and simple, the idea in this step is to determine the proportions of the characters, postures and some other details. Since Hades' hair is made up of flames, I'll save it for last.
Empiezo haciendo las líneas guías, algo rápido y sencillo, la idea en este paso es determinar las proporciones de los personajes, posturas y algún que otro detalle. Como el cabello de Hades está formado de llamas lo dejo para el final.
Outlined / Delineado
Now we move on to the refinement of the lines, here I make a clean drawing which will serve as a basis for applying the color of the next step. I detail well what are the expressions of Hades, and characteristics of the suit he wears.
Ahora pasamos al refinado de las líneas, acá realizo un dibujo limpio el cual me servirá como base para aplicar el color del siguiente paso. Detallo bien lo que son las expresiones de Hades, y características del traje que usa.
Colour / Color
As usual I use the marker brush to apply all the colour, but you could also use the filler tool, although I think this part of the process is less enjoyable, I use soft shades as a base and then apply the shadows and highlights in different layers.
Como es costumbre uso el pincel rotulador para aplicar todo el color, pero también podrías usar la herramienta de relleno, aunque pienso que se disfruta menos esta parte del proceso, uso matices suaves como base para luego aplicar las sombras y brillos en diferentes capas.
Shadows / Sombras
Now it's time to apply the shadows, what I do is copy the color of the area where I'm going to shade and with the color palette I lower the brightness and the saturation a little, to finally apply it with the airbrush and I blur everything to obtain a smooth transition of tones.
Ahora toca aplicar las sombras, lo que hago es copiar el color de la zona donde voy a sombrear y con la paleta de color bajo un poco el brillo y la saturación, para finalmente aplicarlo con el pincel aerógrafo y difumino todo para obtener una transición suave de tonos.
Lights / Luces
For the glows we apply the same technique we use for the shadows, we copy the base color to be illuminated, and modify it in the color palette, but this time we lower the saturation a little and increase the brightness, to finally apply it with the airbrush. In this step I like to modify the color of the outline, applying bright tones to highlight the drawing.
Para los brillos aplicamos la misma técnica que usamos para las sombras, copiamos el color base a iluminar, y modificamos en la paleta de colores, pero esta vez bajamos un poco la saturación y aumentamos el brillo, para finalmente aplicarlo con el pincel aerógrafo. En este paso me gusta modificar el color del delineado, aplicando tonos brillantes para resaltar el dibujo.
Background / Fondo
For the background apply with the airbrush a dark violet base, then in another layer and with the brush of flames, paint some horizontal with low opacity.
Para el fondo aplique con el aerógrafo una base de violeta oscuro, luego en otra capa y con el pincel de llamas, pinte algunas horizontales con baja opacidad.
Details / Detalles
We finish the design of our beloved character of Hades, placing the hair, we paint it using the llama brush with a blue color, we also use the same brush to paint some violet flames in the foreground and to finish we make a cigar or cigarette using the same techniques explained above.
Finalizamos el diseño de nuestro querido personaje de Hades, colocándole el cabello, lo pintamos usando el pincel de llamas con un color azulado, también usamos el mismo pincel para pintar algunas llamas violetas en primer plano y para terminar realizamos un puro o cigarrillo usando las mismas técnicas explicadas anteriormente.
Materials / Materiales
The tools I used for the drawing were the following:
- Android tablet.
- Capacitive pen (Stylus).
- Ibis Paint X program.
- Brushes: Pencil, Airbrush, Fuzzy, Marker.
Las herramientas que use para el dibujo fueron las siguientes:
- Tableta Android.
- Lápiz Capacitivo (Stylus).
- Programa Ibis Paint X.
- Pinceles: Lapiz, Aerografo, Difumino, Rotulador.
