Greetings, boys, have a happy day. Continuing with the theme of Atlantis, today I want to share with you a design of Milo's character that I made with a lot of love for the whole community. Milo is a cartographer and expert in linguistics, who is marginalized by the scientific society because of his studies about Atlantis and his proposal of expedition to look for that so enigmatic place is rejected, until one day an eccentric millionaire decides to finance his project. After this brief introduction, I will explain the step by step, I hope you like it. Without further ado, let's get started.

Siguiendo con la temática de Atlantis, hoy quiero compartirles un diseño del personaje de Milo que realice con mucho cariño para toda la comunidad, Milo es un cartógrafo y experto en lingüística, el cual es marginado por la sociedad científica por sus estudios sobre la Atlántida y es rechazada su propuesta de expedición para buscar ese tan enigmático lugar, hasta que un día un excéntrico millonario decide financiar su proyecto. Tras esta breve introducción, pasare a explicar el paso a paso, espero que les guste. Sin más que decir empecemos.
Process / Proceso
Sketch / Boceto
With soft strokes and using the pencil brush I start making guide lines, here I give shape to Milo's character, I determine the proportions of the body, position of hands, arms and general characteristics of the face, I also make the Diary of the Shepherd that he carries in his hands.
Con trazos suaves y usando el pincel lápiz empiezo a realizar líneas guías, acá le doy forma al personaje de Milo, determino las proporciones del cuerpo, posición de manos, brazos y características generales del rostro, además realizo el Diario del Pastor que lleva en manos.
Outlined / Delineado
Now we move on to the process of refining the drawing, for this purpose I separate the drawing by layers, the hair, body and clothing are made separately, to the newspaper that is in his hands, all this to facilitate any correction of it.
Ahora pasamos al proceso de refinado del dibujo, para tal fin separo el dibujo por capas, el cabello, cuerpo y vestimenta los realizo por separado, al del diario que lleva en las manos, todo esto para facilitar cualquier corrección del mismo.
Colour / Color
As in the previous step, to facilitate the coloring of the drawing, I proceed to divide it into sections using different layers for each section, which are: skin, clothing, hair, the newspaper and the different details that compose it, with the marker brush I apply the color taking care not to get out of the lines. One trick to create the effect of the lens crystals, is to draw them in a different layer and then apply a multiply mixing method.
Como en el paso anterior, para facilitar el coloreado del dibujo, procedo a dividirlo en secciones usando capas diferentes para cada sección, las cuales son: piel, vestimenta, cabello, el diario y los diferentes detalles que lo componen, con el pincel rotulador voy aplicando el color teniendo cuidado de no salirme de las líneas. Un truco para crear el efecto de los cristales del lente, es dibujarlos en una capa diferente y luego aplicarles un método de mezcla multiplicar.
Shadows / Sombras
I proceed to take the color of the area where I am going to darken, under its brightness, I increase a little the saturation, I create a new layer as a mixture multiply and with the help of the airbrush I apply these shadows. I also take the opportunity to add some texture to Milo's clothes, and to the newspaper.
Procedo a tomar el color de la zona donde voy a oscurecer, bajo su brillo, aumento un poco la saturación, creo una nueva capa a modo mezcla multiplicar y con ayuda del pincel aerógrafo aplico dichas sombras. También aprovecho para agregar un poco de textura a la vestimenta de Milo, y al diario.
Lights / Luces
I use the same technique of shading, but this time increasing the brightness and lowering a little saturation of the color, I create a new layer as a mix and apply each brightness by sections using the airbrush, so I avoid mixing the colors with each other. As an extra step and personal touch, I also like to add a certain brightness to the outline of the drawing to make it stand out more.
Uso la misma técnica del sombreado, pero esta vez aumentando el brillo y bajando un poco saturación del color, creo una nueva capa a modo mezcla añadir y aplico cada brillo por secciones usando el pincel aerógrafo, así evito mezclar los colores uno con otros. Como un paso extra y toque personal, me gusta también añadirle un cierto brillo al delineado del dibujo para hacerlo resaltar más.
Background / Fondo
For this design recreate a simple background, it is a dark room illuminated by a fireplace, to achieve this effect first apply a base of dark brown, then in different layers make a gradient of that color, from a light in the area of the fireplace to another darker away from it, finally make the flame of the fireplace which diffuses a little.
Para este diseño recree un fondo sencillo, se trata de un cuarto oscuro iluminado por una chimenea, para lograr tal efecto primero aplique una base de color marrón oscuro, luego en diferentes capas realice un degradado de ese color, desde uno claro en la zona de la chimenea a otro más oscuro alejado de esta, finalmente realice la llama de la chimenea la cual difumine un poco.
Details / Detalles
We finished the design adding some light effects, first I create a copy of the drawing, under its brightness to the maximum achieving a black layer and placed it behind, then I blur it a little, then I create another copy of our character and on top of this I apply a layer as a cut out and mix method add and in the direction of the fire I make the glow of it.
Terminamos el diseño agregando algunos efectos de luces, primero creo una copia del dibujo, bajo su brillo hasta el máximo logrando una capa negra y la situó detrás, luego la difumino un poco, luego creo otra copia de nuestro personaje y encima de esta aplico una capa a modo de recorte y método de mezcla añadir y en dirección al fuego realizo el resplandor del mismo.
Materials / Materiales
The tools I used for the drawing were the following:
- Android tablet.
- Capacitive pen (Stylus).
- Ibis Paint X program.
- Brushes: Pencil, Airbrush, Fuzzy, Marker.
Las herramientas que use para el dibujo fueron las siguientes:
- Tableta Android.
- Lápiz Capacitivo (Stylus).
- Programa Ibis Paint X.
- Pinceles: Lapiz, Aerografo, Difumino, Rotulador.
